Sometimes this happens such as Escort Missions, soon as one vehicle gets to the pickup area, new enemies spawn to fight. Destroy Base is another where if you do certain damage to the base or reach a certain turn, then other enemies show up.

But some missions have them on map from start such as some Assassinate and Battle missions. This can result in too many enemies to fight at once.

Recently I did a Battle mission on Herotitus looked like it was 2 skulls, this was before doing the mission where you get the Argo to use. I decided to take in 4 Medium Mechs (2 Shadow Hawks, 1 Griffin, 1 Blackjack). Match start had a marked spot for backup to come from though Darius did not announce this until Turn 2 or 3. I came across 3 Mediums (1 Trebuchet, 2 Hunchbacks) as the target lance to fight but there were 3 more Mediums (Wolverine, Shadow Hawk, Enforcer) that came in from start as backup.

I also did an Assassinate mission on the same world, 2 and half skulls so I expected a Heavy Mech as the target. A spot for Escort was marked but another for Reinforcements as well. I went to fight the Escort 4 v 4, while doing this 2 of the backups arrived also. If the other 2 backup had come, I would have been in serious trouble but they did not due to an AI bug reported here.

Point is Reinforcements and Ambushes do not really work if they are on the map from Turn 1, also doesn't feel right. They should be arriving under set conditions or later turns like in Escort and Destroy Base missions.
