So, i recently added a suggestion in the suggestion forum.
I add it here as well for discussion. I think this would work well within the current system to mimic the needs and issues with supply.
Goal: Add realism to the supply within the current system.
Suggestion:
1. Add reinforcement time due to distance to where the equipment is. (normally the capital)
2. Add buildable supply centers, and a way to add equipment to these supply centers from production, with reinforcement time. Then designated units can use this as a equipment point, accordning to 1.
Explanation:
Expert AI 4.0 have added a rather ingenious solution that helps with making supply seem more realistic.
Manpower and equipment losses takes up to 30 days to arrive at the unit depending on distance from source. This makes for example the German attack on Russia become more realistic and forces the player and perhaps AI with the right coding to do supply stops. (If you haven't then I urge you to try Barbarossa with the expert AI mod.)
This is a good start, but it also has issues. For example, it takes time for US units in UK/Europe or UK troops in med and Asia a long time to reinforce. (As was in real life without supply centers.)
However combined with the ability to build up local supply pools (with equipment) this would become good and realistic. When supplying locally these could then be used to calculate distance. Basically removing the distance modifier where these are built. These supply dumps would then be buildable before offensives in russa or keeping units in supply at far away places, as long as the equipment is there.
edit:
And since equipment is limited and pools can be captured, these wont get spammed
The first is something expert AI has done, the second part with supply dumps are something that needs to be made by you paradox.
I hope it helps
