Regnal numbers and names with spaces

I noticed in Patch 2.6.1's changelog it said:
"Only rulers' first given name is considered for the purposes of regnal numbering"

Has anyone tested this? Would William I Henry be succeded by William II James, for example?

Can not say ever tried naming children with two names. I usually name male children after the Primarchs in 40k universe. Not often see Horus the second but usually Leman the first, Vulkan the first, Corvus the first... hehe

You can do that. I've tried in my current game, Mehmed II, and then Mehmed III Ulugh. It works as intended.

If you type multiple names, only the very first name will count towards regnal numbers

Yes, that's what the change was. Before, if you gave your kids long names you'd probably never see regnal numbers past 1 or 2. Now people can have their large regnal numbers and also give ridiculously long names...

That wasn't during the middle ages. This practice started only in the early modern era in most cases.

As someone who studied programming, they probably only coded it so it's looking for the space in the name and then making a substring out of it. Then they compare the substring against the title history and then insert the appropriate regnal number based on the index of the space.

In game the name "Ramon-Berenguer" has a hyphen so regnal numbering will be after both names, instead of just after Ramon. Some names have quotations in the game files, like "Alp Arslan" or "Ali Sher". These names within quotations are meant to count as one, so you'll have Alp Arslan V instead of Alp V Arslan.

Are you sure something like "Alp Arslan II" will work? I'm sure it wouldn't because of the space and would became "Alp II Arslan". The quotation marks are just there because otherwise the game would count Alp and Arslan as two seperate names. We really should test it.

Yes, it does work. Franz Joseph of Austria is named Franz II Joseph in my mod, for instance.

In the game files, Alp Arslan is a name in the naming lists as "Alp Arslan", which counts as one name despite being two different words. I'm just stating what I see in the files, as I don't have any idea what the meaning of it truly is, despite me being Turkic

It counts as a single string, but likely as two names for regnal name purposes.

What about the second name being the same? So if you have a character named "Bob Joseph" and then another character named "Kristoffer Joseph" would it become Kistoffer Joseph II?

I haven't tested that in particular, but I don't think so. I think it just takes the first name.

It's just the first name that gets regnal numbers. The only exception is if there's a hyphen like Ramon-Berenguer, or if the dual name is in the game files, like "Bob Joseph" is listed in the English culture names. Similarly, the name Ali Sher is listed as "Ali Sher" under Sindhi culture names.
