That's a feature I'd love to see implemented in a future DLC. The possibility to appoint (or autoassign) governors to regions (I think provinces would be too much micromanagement), with their own personalities.

These governors could have traits as the monarch has, influencing things like loyalty (- unrest), production (improving or reducing), culture and culture conversion (+ unrest if of a different culture from the region), influencing trade, manpower, development cost, institution spread... something balanced, so you could get flawed men as governors, as sometimes an exceptional governor.

Tie this with autonomy in provinces (sack a governor, you reduce the autonomy, but at the cost of risking increasing unrest) and corruption (governors too strong).

Tie this with estates - before absolutism, estates could demand a part of the country to install a governor. After absolutism hits, increasing the absolutist power reduces the estates influence in appointing governors/reduces governors strenght.

Pretender rebels could come from a governor. They could have titles related to the region - Duke of Lancaster, Duc de Normandie...

I'd love to see this feature, think it would improve realm management. So many ideas and possibilities.

More internal politics and everything that makes being at peace more fun is a welcome addition. Managing governors is great but I'm a bit afraid that it could devolve into something Iike the old estate system where you'd just placate on button click every few years and completely lose the roleplaying element of the mechanic.

Assigning state governors could be a good way to lower administration constraints. The downside could be rebellions or successions. The type of governor you can select should be linked to overall state autonomy level. High autonomy would be a governor of local culture and local religion. Lower autonomy, would be of state culture and state religion. No autonomy would be a royal/centralized bureaucracy. This perhaps could fill in the gap for what happens after you absorb a vassal. That way, expansion is slowed down because it is easy to expand and dominate the game by the late 1500s.
