Ever since his father died valiantly in battle my young (14 years old) king of Wessex was ruling with help of regent. The regent didnt like him too much (-9 opinion) however. Soon the events where he tried to kill him started to trigger (where you have 80% chance to survive and 20% chance to die). Now I dont have problem in general with this (regent was ambitious and wanted to become king of England). However, those events triggered in very short succesion, couple of days after each other. More or less this turned into "how will I try to kill you today". There was absolutely no chance to survive and in matter of weeks my character died. Honestly, I dont find this very realistic. I can imagine in this case that the regent might want to orchestrate your murder but he would certainly not do it almost on daily basis. And from game perspective this is pretty unbalanced - you have absolutely no chance to survive. My longest streak was 7 survived accidents but still it doesnt matter, the events will keep triggering and sooner or later your death is guaranteed. Maybe it would be better to add longer cooldown between each "accidents"?

Actually the event chain will end once you reach an event where your regent personally assaults you. If you survive this your palace guards drag him away and you get a new regent while he gets imprisoned.

Interesting, this never happened to me yet or at least I dont recall seeing it. Is it a chance after each attempt or you have to reach certain ammount of failed murder attempts before this triggers?

Yeah, he gets five shots at 80/20 before he goes insane and gets chucked in the dungeon. I've had this event chain fire against me twice, died once and had it fire for me as regent once too and failed. 80/20 really isn't bad odds for survival.

Thanks for info, so my longest streak might have been only 5 times and not 7 and I have probably died in his final attempt. Well, this sucks.

5 shots at 80/20 though gives you less than a 33% chance to survive.

To OP: Welcome to regencies, where the point is to punish you and gameplay doesn't matter.

What is the point of a regent trying to kill you? Wouldnt his regency end if he succeeds or was he the heir that would have inherited after you?

The ONLY trustworthy regent is a surviving parent. Athough I think this event chain does require them to at least dislike you.

Edit: Scratch that. I had a look at the code and only a queen mother or ruler consort are immune from this event, not parents in general. Father-regents are *possibly* more likely to draw it than random courtiers who have the same opinion as the kid as (a) they ma well be the primary heir (father is often the fallback heir) and (b) they are often the parent of the primary heir (i.e. the ruler's sibling).

(Fortunately parents are *likely* to have an opinion better than -6, which is also a requirement)

But... if you have a non-consort parent who ends up regent who hates their kid and happens to be the primary heir or parent of the primary heir... it may well be filicide time!

This event can ONLY trigger if the regent is the primary heir or a parent of them. They also have to have worse than a -5 opinion of the ruler and not be the queen mother or ruler consort.

Well... it can only happen when there's a worse than -5 parent-child opinion, which is itself pretty rare with an underage ruler who hasn't yet had time to alienate them.

Although there is that Conclave educator event that give the ward Ambitious and makes them rivals with the educator... that would do it!
