I would like Spain to inherit Spanish Netherlands more often, but have only seen that happen *once*. True, this is the flukiest part of the inheritance IRL, but Austria getting everything without the rest of Europe/HRE kicking off even slightly would not have happened.

Just being at war with them isn't going to accomplish much. They need to be pummeled down below -75% warscore to have quite a few of the MTTH-lowering triggers.

Does anyone out there know the exact requirements and what effects it's likelihood.

I'm playing as England and have almost won the hundred years war. Before accepting peace with France I go to war with Burgundy but the event never seems to fire.
Requirement:
Burgundy is AI. Is at war. Is not a subject. Is not emperor. Is a monarchy. Does not have a regency. Does not have a female ruler. It's before 1500. Its capital is in Europe. France exists, is not a subject, has 8+ cities, is a neighbor of Burgundy. Emperor either doesn't exist or exists and is not at war with France.

Mean time to happen of 500 months. Increased by 10% if Burgundy is lucky (lucky nations on and you playing one of the lucky nations makes Burgundy lucky). Decreased by 25% if Burgundy does not have an heir or if their heir is a leader. Decreased by 25% if their monarch is a leader. Decreased by 15% if their warscore is below 0. Decreased by 25% if their warscore is below -25. Decreased by 25% if their warscore is below -50. Decreased by 50% if their warscore is below -75.

The other way the event can trigger is if Burgundy has a Regency with no heir and is at peace. But the MTTH for that is 600 months with a 10% increase for being lucky and only a 25% decrease for having no heir.

I have had 4 or 5 games with France, and I kick Burgundy's tail in war every time, and yet I've only seen it fire once. I guess I've been unlucky. France is still plenty powerful, of course.

Thanks. That is way way more complex than I thought. As England I've always had my ally Austria at war with France causing the event to not fire no wonder.

Caught an error and edited my post above. The 2nd way for the event to trigger Burgundy has to be at peace, not "not at peace" like I wrote.

I just thought, if I occupy all of France's provinces during my war would that mean they have no cities? I'm trying to figure out why this event wont occur.

Even if every single reduction of the MTTH is happening it still has a bare minimum MTTH of just over 5 years. You're not guaranteed to get it even if you keep them at -100% warscore until 1500.

I personally like Burgundy disappearing more often than not. It's something that happened early enough in the game to justify some determinism and important enough due to its far reaching consequences. The current event doesn't really justify what happened historically and is just a quick fix to get to a somewhat historical result. So what happened:

A) Burgundy had a female heir that rose to the throne in January 1477
B) France declared war and invaded
C) Burgundy recognized extensive local rights and priveleges to the duchies they ruled over and had it confirmed in February 1477 in the Joyous Entry
D) The female ruler of Burgundy choses to marry the Austrian Emperors heir and not the French heir
E) France and Austria continued to fight wars over the Burgundian inheritance for two hundred years.

In EUIV terms I think A should be likely to happen, B, C and D should be the outcome of AI choices made during events.

I like the event, is creates some very nice friction between Austria and France very early on. Sorely needed if you play anything in Central Europe (up to the Black Sea) or Italy.

However, I'm playing Burgundy myself right now and I had 1 female ruler and 2 about 10 year regencies for low legitimacy heirs. Is Burgundy more prone to regencies/low legitimacy? Do nations have hidden modifiers?

(I'm not worried about the inheritance event, I've already "inherited" both France and Austria by now :D)

So if Burgundy happens to get a female ruler, is there any way to get the event to fire? I don't really understand why a male ruler is required for the event to fire. Do I just have to hope that the female ruler dies before 1500? Are there anyways to make it more likely for a foreign ruler to die?

Honestly I don't see how the Dutch, Flanders and Wallonia cultural zones just can't be forced to be released. Now with 1.8, Austria having 75% autonomy in those lands, It would be much wiser to have those Low Lands nations become independent and join the HRE rather than Gift to France (as if they need more) and A death knell for Austria.
