I was wondering if anyone knows what the exact requirements are for the Burgundian Inheritance event. In my current England game I've won the HYW and now I'm leading a union with France. Meanwhile, Burgundy had a stroke of bad luck and their king died before 1500 with no heir to rule country. Now if I understand the event correctly, the Burgundian lands will be split between France and Austria as long as Burgundy isn't at war with any of them. But in my game, a random Habsburg noble inherited the Burgundian crown, leaving the country intact. I rerolled an old save game and Burgundy didn't have a royal marriage with Austria.

Does anyone know why the inheritance event didn't fire? I thought I could be caused by the PU I have with France, but I can't find a line in the event file that excludes a junior PU France from inheriting their half of Burgundy.

There are two different events that can start the Burgundian Inheritance, here are the triggers for them-

Code:
	trigger = {
		tag = BUR
		ai = yes
		NOT = { has_country_flag = burgundian_succession_crisis }
		luck = no
		is_at_war = yes
		is_subject = no
		is_emperor = no
		government = monarchy
		has_regency = no
		is_female = no
		NOT = { is_year = 1500 }
		capital_scope = {
			continent = europe
		}
		FRA = {
			exists = yes
			is_subject = no
		}
		OR = {
			emperor = {
				exists = yes
				NOT = { war_with = FRA }
			}
			emperor = {
				exists = no
			}
		}
	}

And the other one-

Code:
	trigger = {
		tag = BUR
		ai = yes
		NOT = { has_country_flag = burgundian_succession_crisis }
		luck = no
		is_at_war = no
		is_subject = no
		is_emperor = no
		NOT = { is_year = 1500 }
		capital_scope = {
			continent = europe
		}
		AND = {
			has_regency = yes
			has_heir = no
		}
		FRA = {
			exists = yes
			is_subject = no
		}
		OR = {
			emperor = {
				exists = yes
				NOT = { war_with = FRA }
			}
			emperor = {
				exists = no
			}
		}
	}

I think the first event really need revised. Burgundy is a nation geared for war, and making it so that just being at war is enough to trigger the inheritance result in a far too frequent inheritance in my experience.

(So far, in both my Burgundy and France games, I've seen the event fire within five years)

The King of Burgundy dies heirless too often........eventhough the Game Mechanics Almost require you to use your Ruler as a General. I've Started about 10 games so far and I think the Burgundian Inheritance (Split between France and Austria) happened in 9 of them. Earliest was about 1450 and usually by 1470.

Yes I like History and DHE's are good......but having them fire ALMOST every game is killing the Sandbox IMHO. It's like HOI3 and if Germany doesn't Follow History Exactly AI doesn't know what to do and Game is a mess.

I might have to play Burgundy just to make sure the event NEVER fires.

It also has a Mean Time To Happen of 400 months, but this is made more likely if Burgundy has no heir, if monarch is a leader, if heir is a leader, and if they have a low war score (are losing their current war).

But I would agree that it may be a little too likely. Still much better than not having the Burgundian Inheritance like EU III.

France can't be a subject nation (which it is in your game) or the event won't fire

No Burgundian inheritance is bad, but the Inheritance should remain relatively rare. It was a fluke of history, not something doomed to happen.

Don't forget that one of Burgundy's National Bonuses is a MINUS 33% heir chance.

They should make the compleation of the Burgundy's ideas increase heir chance by the same about

I would like to hear what the justification for this is. I understand one ruler, but every single ruler of Burgundy ever? Is the entire family line partially inept?

If there is a 9/10 chance of the Bugundian Inheritance happening, there should also be Bohemian and Hungarian inheritance events for Austria/Ottomans, and possibly a Prussian inheritance for Brandenburg...

Well every duke of Burgundy of the Valois dynasty (other than the first) has had only 1 or less legitimate sons. It's a pretty thin dynasty.

Exactly they weren't known for being particularly fertile.

If there is a 9/10 chance of the Bugundian Inheritance happening, there should also be Bohemian and Hungarian inheritance events for Austria/Ottomans, and possibly a Prussian inheritance for Brandenburg...
I never saw a Hungarian inheritance event for Ottomans. I played 5 full separate games as Ottomans.

Its a historical event just like Time of Troubles, War of the Roses, and Iberian Wedding. There was never a Bohemian/Hungarian succession crisis between ottomans and Austria... Mostly because Ottomans were Muslims and Christian Kingdoms wouldn't intermarry with them....

I think a lot of people are missing the NOT = { is_year = 1500 } trigger that is in both of these events. Essentially, if Burgundy survives past the year 1500 than the event will never happen. So yes it is too likely as it usually happens in every single game (though I personally love when things follow history). So if it was made less likely than Burgundy would stand a greater chance to make it the year 1500 and be safe. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I feel that its current state is much better than EU III, where Burgundy was overpowered and tended to always exist way longer than it historically did. But once again, it does need to be made a little less likely.

This event is so annoying if you're playing anyone in the Empire, France, or Italy. It makes Austria so big that it never loses emperor status & pope and makes France even scarier early. If this event is going to fire 9/10 times before 1500 you might as well not even have Burgundy in the game when the game starts because it makes it impossible to play on Ironman as those two nations get Lucky Nations bonus on top of it.

One way to avoid it is to have random lucky nations instead of historical, then burgundy has a chance to be lucky which disqualifies them from both events, from the look of them

eliminating or playing a lucky nation also gives burgundy a chance to become lucky. There will always be the same number of lucky nations in play. Lithuania, Burgundy and Poland are fairly likely to get it, it seems, since it tends to go to the big nations.
