Refusing to pay back loan

Playing as France, I was offered a loan offer from Morocco. I accepted and when it was time to pay back, I refused. Inspecting the relation with Morocco, I don't see it listed as a negative modifier, which I had expected. Nor can I see any other negative effect.

Doesn't refusing to pay back a loan bring any bad effects at all?

Defaulting on loans really ought to raise your interest rate or something.

It's also strange that you can't default on domestic debt, short of bankruptcy.

Yea. Possibly that and a ping to prestige would make sense. Look at how much prestige unnamed modern countries could be said to have lost recently.

Worth pointing out: While its response to loan defaults can certainly be improved, the AI only offers loans in cases it would otherwise have sent a gift, so it doesn't lose money it wouldn't have lost otherwise.
