Thanks, and a little clarification, please.

1.06c does not have the extra pictures. You still need either the pictures (only) from the picture pack or from C.O.R.E. (which includes all the pictures from the picture pack). Note this is only if you WANT the pictures; they aren't really required to run the game correctly. Some people even remove some pictures because it improves performance. You should also get the fixpack from my sig; even if you run CORE the fixpack has some fixes for leader and minister files that CORE doesn't fix. You may also want Robert Koop's fix for the modifiers bug; see my post in the Fix it Yourself thread here.

First, thank you so much for your reply.

Second, I have a game machine (my last vice), so performance is not an issue, but thanks for the advice.

I would like ot summarize where my testing has got me and ask a few finer points. My testing basically confirms your sage advice.

My first install was 1.06C plus your 1.06C "Fix Pack" that is available on one of the threads in this forum. I assume that this is the "fixpack" that you refer to in your reply above. Many thanks to you for continuing to carry the torch for 1.06c as most effort is being devoted to HOI2.

I immediately discovered that the pictures for the two default army ministers for Great Britain were missing and used 0411 (less events) as it was all that I had available. This gave me these two pictures and, I suppose, some others as well.

The next problem that I encountered was that some of the leader characteristics would not show up when the mouse was held over them. Can you please confirm that Robert Koop's fix will address this issue.

I intend to use all of your links on your "Fix It Yourself" thread shortly.

Regarding picture packs, I need to explain that I was in search of improved picture packs as a result of the FAQ that accompanied CORE 0.9. In it, the question is asked whether 0411 is needed and the answer said no, but it added that "it has been supereseded by numerous updates, giving no particulars.

In the absence of any replies before you responded, I had resolved to try the following -(Please be patient with my fanatical dedication to optimizing HOI)

Compare the relative file sizes of the minister and leader db's as well as the pictures in HOI as I now have it versus the CORE files.

In the event that the CORE files were significantly larger than the HOI files, I was going to overwrite the HOI files with the CORE files, assuming that "More is Better". This would preclude the need to find the "numerous updates" because CORE 0.9 would presumably contain them.

I think that you reply above indicates that this would actually be a step backwards to the extent that I would lose the benefit of your "Fixpack"
improvements to the db files. So my question is this "What is your opinion of the picture file in CORE and is it compatible with the DB files that I have in HOI now?"

Many thanks in advance.

Further to my previous post, I should have said that the second problem i discovered is that "Traits" are not visible for all leaders presently.

Can you please comment?

Won't this overwrite new files as well (particularly ones from your fix-pack)?

Yes. One of these days I'll add his files to the fixpack but right now you would need to edit the files manually to properly combine the two. He basically adds a tech to one of the tech files and then gives it to all countries in their scenario files.

The number of the tech is 1974 and should be added to the techapps in the inc. files of Columbia, Mexico, Peru, Saudi-Arabia , Venezuala and the Soviet-Union in the the 1936-folder under "Scenarios" and also for the Soviet-Union in the 1939, 1941 and 1944 folders. Those are the only affected files.

Umm... why does it only have to be added to those files? In your download, you seem to have added it to all the files. Is it just to do with the other techs they have? (I only just got HOI, speak to me slowly :) )

If you install Jdrou's fixpack, some of the files in the modifiers pack will be overwritten by that mod. By adding that tech to the scenariofiles ( Just open it with wordpad ) both mods should work normally :) . This works only if you install the fixpack after the modifierspack, I don't know yet what you have to change if you reverse that order.
