I'm sure this topic has come up before, but I didn't see it while skimming topics. Sorry, but posting from a phone makes searches a bit difficult. Anyways, I'm a Zoroastrian king that controls all the holy sites. However, I'm currently under the Abbasids. I've been reluctant to declare independence although I'm already more powerful than my liege. I'm still surrounded by religious enemies. Is it possible to reform the faith before I'm independent? Or are there other considerations I need to take before I could reform it anyways?

Zoroastrians aren't pagan, you can't reform them. If you mean restore high priesthood you must have the empire of Persia, and since as an emperor can be vassal to no one you must be independent. But on your cause I would first gain the necessary territory before break independent.

Thanks, I has misunderstood the wiki on it. I'll wait until I can create the empire before I break free. It's been slow going, since my liege keeps forcing peace in the realm.
