So, an idea I had, is that as a decision the player can choose to reform the non-pagan religion they follow, much like how Henry VIII created the English church. This reformation would then initially count as a Heresy, but I guess it would be possible to eventually be counted as a different denomination (like how the Catholic and Orthodoxy works).

This could potentially also allow for dynamic heresies to spring up when the MA of the religion of the area grows too low, essentially randomized reformations.

Of course, this system could also apply to reformed pagans.

Good heresy system need deeper analisis of historical praxis of those heresy. Individual events, decisions, flavour, govs, mechanics etc. Individualization of heresy, where you feel "now I play as Iconoclast" or "now I play as Druze". This should be goal of "modernization of heresies".
