In the definition of an AI, it is possible to refer to continent, regions and areas in order to define the expansion areas of the country, instead of using long lists of provinces. This ensures some readabiliy of the file.
My question is why is such facility not given in the definition of countries. There are, when defining a country, four ranges of provinces that need to be defined (knownprovinces, ownedprovinces, controlledprovinces and nationalprovinces). Of the four, the most cumbersome to encode is the first (knownprovinces) as it can lead to a rather long string of provinces IDs. In those instructions, it should be possible to specify directly a continent, a region or an area by name. Such facility would enhance the readability of the definition.
There may be other places where such possibility could be a blessing. I think about new trigger conditions based on area or region where the capital of a country is located.
