So, I did some tests (which you can easily do too, just notepad ++ and use the search and replace function, creating a mod with only the National focus and the localization file) and practically if: I transform the focus from 35 days into focus from 28 and focuses from 70 to 35 with the "new nations" (Turkey, Bulgaria, UK, France, the Netherlands) I CAN actually do things! I can move and conquer those 1-2 countries via focus without causing world war to break out and then join WW2 ... it's all much more balanced. So who said that doing everything from 35 focus was wrong ... well, that person: He was wrong! I can really do something rather than keep the game at speed 5, keep industries producing civilian and then military industries and switch focuses, looking at the screen doing nothing (save for the new nations in the latest DLC you have internal stuff to do ).
It is actually much more fun. If PDX understood that 70 days focus is evil, everything would be better! The 70-day focus is useless!

The 70-day focus is useless!
You misspelled "historic."

The countries you list:
(Turkey, Bulgaria, UK, France, the Netherlands)
Were all weak, passive, preoccupied, or some combination of those during the time period before the war. They're not supposed to conquer 1-2 countries before the war, whether or not that would be "fun." Because they historically didn't, because they historically couldn't.

And you already have the solution in hand: make a mod that reduces all the focuses you wish to 28-35 days. Shoot, reduce them to 1-2 days. Go nuts!

The base game is already wacky enough for on ostensibly-WW2-based game.

Are we -really- going to pull the 'its not historic' argument? You're opening up a can of worms you do not want.

ugh, this is another thing that's tainted hoi4 because there isn't a vic 3 (harhar vic 3 lol).
Hoi is supposed to be about playing ww2, the emphasis shouldn't be on setting up your pieces or empire building like other pdx games. This is THE war game, more tactics less grand strategy.
If we had another Victoria type IP which allows for greater emphasis on the build up and then the finale of the world wars then the people who like that can play that and hoi can go back to being a(singular) war game.

And the war game would have died out years ago because the gameplay would have come and gone. The game is fine as it is for the direction when it incorporates everything.

You opened it, I'm just examining the contents. ;)

You do knwo that historically, the axis lost ww2 right? So by your logic, the game should railraod the axis to losing every single time.

Historically, it should be difficult for the Axis to win, all other things being equal. A game of this type needs some RNG to it, so the number of Axis "wins" if everything is run by the AI should end up lower than 50%, but above 0%. (I think they get that balance the wrong way round, but whatevs.)

Which is different from a railroad.

Except its not historic. If things are to be historic, then Axis must always lose.

Respectfully disagree. History is fixed*, historical games must have variable outcomes. Otherwise, they're not games, they're low-rez reenactments.

*Except for the endless revisions. Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia. :p

Ah yes those well known pre ww2 warmongering nations
Yes, yes, but I do not say in the historical path ... that it is often so weak that we might as well leave the PC on that country at speed 5 and not play. But for the ahistorical paths, that's fine ... ie French focus ... 70 days for 1 or 2 industries. 1 OR 2 INDUSTRIES !? Seriously!? If many remember the Mexican focus is the most appreciated because 90% of the focus has been for 35 days! And you can Actually, do something nice!

IMO the Majors are fine, they are already ahead of the rest of the world, their focuses are already powerful.

Netherlands is fine. It actually is the easiest country to take out Germany with, gets plenty of big bonuses.

Bulgaria could do with some reducing to 35 Days,

With Turkey I agree, 35 days are the way to go with a tree that large.

With turkey I have yet to check but I believe a mix is 21/28 and 35 days.
