Ever thought about sending some Marines to take Copenhagen to open up the Denmark straits? Could allow the mighty Hammer and Sickle over the North Sea and show that Great Britain is not the sole ruler of it

Wouldn't it be better to create a supply depot for the Romanian forces until the pocket was unlocked with the help the northern forces?

Really strange that the Germans didn't send any escorts with their two BBs. Tanesis is right that this must have been a major part of your lack of defeat.

  • For The Glory
General_Hoth - The sacrifice of the Romanian partisans won't be forgotten! Thy shall be greatly honoured when the Liberation Forces return.

Pwn*Star - I thank you for your attempt at protecting my ego, but the truth is I simply grew too ambitious and it backfired on me. That said, it only makes it more fun that I have a Crisis in the Ukraine to deal with now.

RGB - True. On the other hand, the Marines are deployed already, so the TPs aren't urgently needed (on the Baltic), and can be rebuilt faster than any of the classic BBs.

Tanesis - I don't think it was the screening. Stats don't indicate much loss of efficiency for it. It was more my efficient screening, and unexpected TP exploit I guess.

BritishImperial - Admiral Smirnov is a valued member of our organization, and as such irreplaceable, etc etc etc :p And he wasn't defeated mind you. Böhm is the one who retreated. Good call on his part too, or the Main Fleet would have crushed his Bismarcks.

Storm501 - Certainly. We will break out of it through the waves of the Black Sea. :D

Maj. von Mauser - Well he won didn't he? I mean, kinda. Plus he's a Baltic Veteran, can't just kick those fellows away.
As for the pocket, look at the troops in the Ukraine and you'll have your answer...

Beladriel - Realistic, perhaps. Dumb and costly, for sure :eek:o

Lord Strange - Indeed. Isn't it great when Gameplay and Roleplay fit together so well? Ah... that's the joy of AARing! Well, for me anyway.

Cyrus_The_Great - Slightly difficult you say? Hm... Ok, I'll add some land reports of the area next couple of updates.

Slaughts - I shall pass the idea along to Commissar Kuznetsov, comrade. Rest assured, if he dislikes it, you'll receive full credit. :p

Emperor_krk - Such a depot was indeed created, but the Fleet simply does not possess the transport capacity to sustain it for long, or even to guarantee it will be enough. Not to mention those Northen Forces you speak of being... shall we say Heroic Defenders of the Motherland of the Overwhelmed Type?

edit: might as well put my personal comment regarding the Naval Battle - Holy Mother of Marx, that was Lucky! It took me completely by surprise, and I really though I'd see a battle to the bitter end.
As for the pocket... Doh! :homer:

Invasion on Copenhagen is reasonable - under condition that you manage to maintain constant position in the Sund in order to block the German forces that'll surely amass in Odense and Rostock.

Secretary Andreev promise of means to evacuate the Romanian Pocket was based on the Naval Infantry transports, and he was reasonably sure they'd suffice. But what he and Commissar Kuznetsov didn't tell anyone, was how relieved they were that such a pocket happened in the Black Sea, and not in the Baltic, where the last battles with the Tirpitz left the Fleet essentially unable preform large scale transport.

Immediate steps were taken to solve the problem in the Baltic, with resources allocated in advance for any more that might be needed in the Black Sea, just in case.

No time was lost in the evacuation either. Escorted by the oldest Black Sea ships, the transports docked in Varna to pick up three Marine divisions, under the protest of their General Batov, who insisted they should stay behind and guard the harbour for the other divisions.

This was not at all an option, though. The Army had informed the Fleet of the urgent situation between Odessa and Kiev, and due to their amphibian gear and training, the Naval Infantry was simply the only force that could be directly deployed from the sea to the front.

Naval Infantry disembarks near the Odessa Front

Transporting Army Infantry in such large numbers directly to a civilian harbour like Odessa was, unfortunately, too risky. Attempting a beach disembark, then, would be suicide. Three more divisions were saved from the pocket and sent to Sevastopol, in the first of many other troop transport missions.

Meanwhile, in the North, things were also going badly for the Red Army, expelled from Königsberg. At the same time, just like in the South, the Red Fleet made a routine of yet another unexpected activity: Fighting the Tirpitz and the Friedrich der Große.

Admiral Böhm was starting to prove himself a bad judge of when to start a battle, but he still didn't miss an opportunity to retreat as soon as he realised it.

Five hours into the long-range artillery duel, what was in theory the strongest fleet of the Kriegsmarine, retreated with a slightly bruised nose. The apparent German cowardice was having a priceless positive effect on the Soviet sailors morale.

The same couldn't be said, unfortunately, of the Heroic Marines of the Black Sea. Submitted to Army command in the urgency of the moment, and only 3 days after landing, they were forced into a desperate offensive northwards.

Naval Infantry mixed with Army Infantry, still near the shore

Unprepared, and fighting under a General who just didn't know how to use special forces, the Naval Infantry met it's first major defeat, failing to push the Wehrmacht out of the small but strategic city of Balta, and thus leaving Kiev undefended!

Better luck had the Marines of the Baltic sea, although fighting in an environment completely different of that for which they trained, they still managed to outperform the Finnish defenders, and secure another victory for the Soviet Union.

But victories in Finland would mean little if the South Front completely collapsed...

Damn the fasicts! Despite you having a better screening ratio and having CVL's the Germans are having better positioning. Still I've no doubt the Red Navy will prove victorious!

Indeed the Red Army did lure the Heer into traps. Just what's happening here comrades they will be lulled into a false sense of security by our temporary withdrawl then we'll smash them with the counter attack. Have no fear Comrades this is all part of the Maskirovka.

Kiev's not lost yet - Dneper's a perfect defensive line. Small provinces should allow you to quickly circulate units in Kiev and maintain a beachead. Not to mention that once the Jerries push into Donbas, cutting them off will be piece a cake.

Or peraps you want to tell us that the screen shows as ALL your souther front units?

To fall into the theme, it's grammar not grammer ;).

A dangerous situation. If the Germans push a little further to the east, they might cut off Crimea from the mainland. This would be a disaster for the Black Sea Fleet.

Not really. Novorossyisk can be used as a replace naval base (it still has that 2 levels in WiF, doesn't it?). Only if the Jerries managed to make their way into the Caucasus, the situation would look desperate.

Still, with the AI pushing so hard eastwards, cutting them off should be fairly easy - the arch created by the Don River is a perfect location to perform large scale encirclement, mostly because of its lenght. Plus, it's fairly easy to defend.

I'd start worrying if the Jerries managed to start pushing your from the Baltic States - as long and the central and northern sectors of the frontline are stable, USSR is safe. South looks vunerable with its plains and numerous resources - but as I said before, Dneper and Don make this region defendable, plus AI's stupidity can be used to your advantage. In fact the only province in the south you can't affort to lose is Baku - IIRC, it produces something around 10% of in-game oil ;)

EDIT: @ Emperor_krk -> Ouch, that hurts... A Pole correcting a gentelman's native language... ;)

I'm glad to see that you managed to win Böhm, but you would really need decisive battle against them where you could sink few of their battleships.

In any case situation doesn't look good in the Southern Front. Ukraine is always the weaker spot in the Soviet defences. Hopefully Germans won't advance too far.

@Olaus, a little bit of English grammer help for future reference, it should be I just caught up, not catched. English is very very odd.

Actually it's valid form in the English language, although rare. But sometimes English is very very odd.
