The thing about European cultures and all, I do plan on dividing them. I'm just waiting until I finish up the province map to divide them up in the UN so I left it as just European. Maybe I'll add an African culture or two along with some Asian or Pacific to show its not really a disguised EU. About the Taiwanese, that's supposed to be a hint about how Earth changed before Colonization. There will be some other tid bits like that in the mod! Will add your Iranian idea. Maybe there should be a Maccau like Island too.

What happened to Taiwan? Did the natives, 2% of the population, become the majority? Or did the Pan-Greens change all their names to Dutch ones?

I'm actually trying to learn some Russian, will you tell me what tserkov means? Also, will change it and put Cossacks as holy order.

I see, sorry if it sounded rude, I did not mean it to. "Tserkov" means "church" (both as a place of worship and institution).

You could simply name it Marstserkov if the intention was to choose for this religion a name sounding as a name of a Soviet state-owned retail chain (which is a good twist IMO).

What is Macptserkov supposed to mean? It does not make a lot of sense in Russian. Well, tserkov makes sense, but Macp does not and the whole world is plain impossible to pronounce.

And yes, you should totally make Cossacks its holy order.

Google translate said it was mars-church when i asked it was mars-church was
no understanding of russian went into it, just wanting it to sound soviet and trusting in google

Finally got the MOLA data to work. I know you guys have a base map you're already working with, but here's my pitch for one with a slightly lower sea level and sightly larger frame:

rough crop color.jpg

The color overlay is a little misaligned at the bottom, since the raw data and the color version use different projections. Ignore it for now. I also made a plain grey version in case that's easier for you to draw on.

rough crop bw.jpg

Any feedback? I'll probably spend the next few days looking at wind, temperature, and elevation, and trying to parse this out into terrain types.

Well, google translate can yield some strange translations sometimes. If you change that cryptic Mapc to Mars, it sounds very Soviet.

"Freed them a bit" how?
The situation in Taiwan, I'd like to remind you, is the following:
the place was colonized by Chinese in the 17th century, then it was taken by the Japanese in the 19th century, in 1895, I think, but the population remained Chinese. The island was given over to the Chinese after WW2, to the Nationalist government of Jiang Jieshi, who used the island as a refuge when Mao kicked him out of continental China. Today the name of Taiwan is Republic of China, the official language is Chinese, albeit in a more sophisticated and classical form than the one we find in the PRC, the government claims the right to rule continental China AND EVEN MONGOLIA, and everyone but a few black natives can trace their ancestry to China and speaks Chinese or one of its dialects, the very same dialects you can find in China.
You're being very vague. They're Chinese in everything: why should their culture be different from the Chinese one ingame, and how different can the culture of Taiwan become?

Maybe it's not taiwan, just two chinese langauges, neither called chinese but with martian evovled names and both descended from chinese colonies. But for the name list, one using popular names from china and one from taiwan as then you get similar but slightly different name lists?

If it was China and Taiwan both having colonies, why'd they be near each other? Also would Taiwan have colonies? it's pretty little.

I was under the impression that people in taiwan were culturally a mix of British and Chinese. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Is there any size comparison between the map you're using and the vanilla CKII map? That would make it easier to discuss realistic religions/cultures/settlements.

I think, scale is being put aside for nice looking and diverse geography? Someone said earlier that mars was so big, a to scale map would just be one mountain and would suck or something?

Super! Like I said, I'll be working on biomes, but for now just assume that green = lots of provinces and other colors = less provinces.

Could that really cool harbour/canyon/thing have lots of provinces around it? and the valley that it turns in to.
It'd be a good trade route as it's water and goes into the interior, it looks cool, and it might be protected from weather or volanoes or stuff or other reasons to justify it being populous.
It looks cool, and it's central too. So it should be important

Quite the opposite, actually - Mars is fairly small, with a total surface area comparable to Earth minus all its oceans. This map is a little larger than the base CK2 map, but not by much; you can imagine it's about the same size.

The point of reference I had brought up before is that Olympus Mons is just a little smaller than France. You may have been thinking of that.

Looking at the file size, this map is 1500x1000. The current ck2 map is 3072x2048, so this map is a fourth of the newest map. That's about a fourth, image comparison below.

That said, increasing it to 2500x1700 (Roughly 2/3s larger) maintains the shape nicely and gives the space needed for all the provinces. Quoms, how would you recommend we do it?

John Wu, with a monocole, a top hat and a walking stick is a Hong Konger, not a Taiwanese.
Never mind. I'm an idiot. So sorry about that  I'll change it to Hong Kong when I finish redoing the culture and religions map with the new one from quoms. Also, should Baha'I be moved to the Islamic group? it's not perfect, but it gives them a chance to survive and they are relatively close. It would be kinda like Zoroastrianism and Manichaeism being grouped together in Vanilla

Hong Kong is part of the PRC. How will you have an autonomous Hong Konger colonization policy?

Bahaism would be cool in an Iranian religious group, with Zoroastrianism and even a resurrected Manichaeism. Bahaism actively seeks converts, and Zoroastrianism is currently being revived by Irani (Indian, non-Parsi Zoroastrian communities) missionary communities and a few Tajik, Iranian and Kurdish nationalists.
On the internet, you can also find websites presumably devoted to reviving Manichaeism, despite the lack of holy texts around. If you want something ASB and wacky, you may as well include that in the Iranian religious group.

About Hong Kong, I honestly don't know. My best guess is that perhaps a more progressive China in the future gives in to a very high demand for independence. Also I'm sorry but unless you see it to be that unreasonable, I don't see why I should change it. About the Iranian Idea, thanks! I will definitely look into that as we need a good incest religion in the mod. How could this be CK2 without it? Finally, I want to say quite a few religions have been updated on the main post so you guys can check them out. I'll try to get some of the cultures down tonight.

Fairly sure the incest stuff was limited to the Sassinid dynasty period, and wasn't that well spread. I don't think that modern day Zoroastrians practice it, and I don't see the practice coming back into fashion any time soon given our knowledge of genetics. If you want a good incest religion it would probably be easier (and less disrespectful to present day Zoroastrians) to create a new religion from scratch with a big focus on free loving.
