Esperanto? When did this happen.
They've been on the front page for a while now and talked about earlier on the thread. For a brief run-down, a sort of global Esperanto 'culture' evolved on Earth and some of those people raised in it grouped together on the trip to Mars. When they got there, the Esperantists formed Diatero, an area where the language was almost exclusively spoken, and began to elect community leaders. The whole kingdom is run by a somewhat communistic-Athens system. Every ten years, they 'elect' new community representatives (truly the only candidates who have a hope of winning are the families of whoever was chosen the first time 'round). These representatives then select an overall leader who rules for his lifetime. The Esperanto culture also has many unique things it can do like proselytizing the language, celebrating Zamenhof day, hosting World Congresses bi-annually where you can establish relationships and gain/lose traits, all along with many other flavor events or systems. You'll all see more of that in the dev diary hopefully.

Hmm, there was probably a better way to say that. I meant it more in the sense of elections are a sham, but that doesn't really mean the same thing as communist. Maybe a better term would be fascist?
Huh. Well, fascists didn't even go through with elections in many cases as far as I know...
Well you'd need it to be something really corrupt by nature.

My dreams of a terraformed Barsoom have been realized! I wonder if you read my proposal for the map idea on Steam Workshop, but that was under EUIV not CKII so I have my doubts. Either way, this will be interesting to try out and your Martian/Barsoom map could be used for other projects.

Trying to replicate modern politics in CK2, still retaining the old religious system, and which now includes about two dozen religions... I think you need to go back to the drawing board.

Crisis of the Confederation handled the modern-politics aspect very well in my opinion. Hopefully I can use it as a skeleton for building up the systems in Red Kings. As to the religious system, I agree its very rough right now. I'm hoping to add some sort of synectriscm, but that'll wait until more essential systems can be finished.

Quick question but why isn't there an American culture?
The first release (what we're currently working on) is going to be focusing on the refugee-part of Mars for the most part. From there, it'll be extended into the Red Plains where its much more feudal/tribal, and finally to the more green-marshy areas where the corporations are. There, you'll find most of the American cultures; though some may be sprinkled into the U.N. areas. I hope that answered your question!

Mod Request - Barsoom (John Carter of Mars)
I was wondering if anyone would be able to make a mod that depicts the world of Barsoom (Mars) from the John Carter of Mars series. I'd prefer it to a million years in the past back when it was lively so that there could still be navigable oceans, and forests and grasses all upon the land. Just the planet's surface changing would suffice, it could still have all the earthly factions and whatnot: I don't expect people to model and animate Tharks and thoats. :p
Sorry if my wording was off in the original reply here. If you Google Search "Barsoom" you should find boat loads of things concerning geography and things related to John Carter of Mars. If you want, you could use some names and locations from the book series as inspiration for places in this mod. Heh, as a joke reference you could even mention relics of the old civilizations before the atmosphere collapsed, which as the series takes place in the late 1800's (John Carter is a Confederate veteran) and the planet was just barely able to support life at that time, I wouldn't be surprised if it was well dead by the time the UN sent folks to Mars in Red Kings.

Anybody who can use a keyboard?

I can certainly do that but I haven't ever coded for CK2. How difficult is it?

You could try looking modding tutorials on the CK2 wiki if you want to help. I'll even help you with learning the basics if you want, but the best way to learn is looking through the event files for AtE and AGoT because they're excellently coded. Also, save yourself alot of time and download Notepad++.

The Kingdom of Diatero began its life on the Mayflower, the flagship of the First Fleet; of which constituted the Mayflower, the Beagle, the Xu Fu, and the Kamal. Much of the Esperanto speaking community aboard the Mayflower was brought together by a Pole named Izydor Rufin. Izydor founded the Esperanto Demokrata Komisino in order to deliver necessary supplies to families who were not able to supplement the miniscule provided meals with their own money. During the three year trip to Mars, the E.D.K. grew in power and began to directly work with UN representatives to make everything stretch the whole trip.

Upon arriving at Mars, Izydor became very sick as he gave up most of his own rations to others. Firsthand sources all confirm the story that he took one look at the lush green landscape of what is now Victoria through a viewing port and said ‘I have met Paradise’. Afterwords, he fell unconscious and stayed in a medically induced coma for nearly five days before finally dying.

The first action of the E.D.K. was to investigate where the Xu Fu had landed. Nearly a week before arriving at Mars its communications network had been knocked out by a rogue asteroid. With that gone, the Xu Fu’s course slowly changed and it was nowhere to be found during or after descent. The E.D.K.’s efforts were to no avail and they were forced to give up the search in favor of setting up new settlements. Elections were held four times a year and during the second election, Jahan Washer was appointed to office. He was an extremely zealous Baha’i and slowly started enforcing his teachings onto those who relied on the E.D.K. for basic items like food and water. The UN Secretary General of Mars Lireman Johnson tried to shut this down, but that prompted Navid to radicalize.

During the eighth monthly meeting of the E.D.K. Navid announced that it was to disband, and instead he declared God king of all lands settled with the E.D.K.’s help. UN peacekeeping troops tried to arrest him but hidden fanatics opened fire on the whole congress. Johnson officially declared Navid a public enemy and suspended all travel into or out of the new kingdom of Diatero (Also spelled Diotero). The Pacifica threat to the south led him to ignore Navid for the most part, and Navid stuck his claws deep into the community. Navid commissioned the building of a new Universal House of Justice and set to executing anyone who did not comply with his exact views on the Baha’i religion. He went so far as to make a secret police force named the Just Knights of Bahá'u'lláh. In ten years time Sargon Nobiro was appointed to it.

Sargon’s age allowed him to remember a time when bloodshed was not the only answer, so he, with the help of a technologically enhanced human from Asylum, snuck into Navid’s quarters during the night. They brought him to a UN court which decided to sentence Navid to exile onto an island off the coast with a small number of guards to keep him from escaping. Upon his return, Sargon was elected King of Diatero by a new congress. At the age of 120, he stepped down and his grandson Ibrahamo was elected next.

Exiled Navid, eh? I'm going to assume he's still alive on that island, and it'll be possible to seek revenge?

Just from the OP post, is it just me, or are Olympian and Cydonian pretty much the same thing? And the Cult of Mars too, just with different cultural practices. The planet is God either way, and the other planets are other gods. The rest is just details. Seems like reforming the religions and/or schism-ending should apply here to make a unified Martian faith which folds the martian cults into olympian. An event chain could turn the more militant Cult of Mars followers into a holy order or a horde invasion, or disperse them with modifiers to some provinces.
Hmm, there was probably a better way to say that. I meant it more in the sense of elections are a sham, but that doesn't really mean the same thing as communist. Maybe a better term would be fascist?
You're thinking of "Totalitarian" I think. Generally though, those governments call themselves democratic. If they were going to call themselves what they were, why have a sham election in the first place?
