Recurrent broken saves and CTDs

Hi all,

I run CK2 via Steam on Windows 7. About a week ago, when I went to quick save a game, it would save abnormally fast and the resultant save game would invariably be corrupted. When I went to resign from a game after this happens, I get a CTD. I would reload from an earlier save and the same thing would happen. Sometimes when I try to reload CK2 after these CTDs, it crashes at the "Loading Histories..." phase of startup, preventing me from running the game at all. Sometimes restarting my computer stops the crashes and enables me to play, but only temporarily.

I've tried reinstalling the game, verifying my cache on Steam, and turning off autosaves. I haven't modded the game except I downloaded the Game of Thrones mod but am not using it in this case. I have the ruler designer DLC and Sword of Islam, but no others. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: The error message I get when the game CTDs on startup is:

"file exception: exception in ...\CK2-LatestPatch-Release\clausewitzII\pdx_core\virtualfilesystem.cpp, line: 728. Descrption: Error while writing string"

When you load the game without mods, do you get version 1.092 ICBN?

There is a known bug with autosaves that corrupt save game files in 1.092. The only known workaround is to turn off autosave, and do frequent manual saves - at least once per game month.

This should be fixed in next patch 1.10 due shortly. But that will not un-corrupt existing bad saves, unfortunately.

What about the Resign CTD and Startup CTD? I am unable to play the game regardless of whether or how I save.

When you load the game without mods, do you get version 1.092 ICBN?
