In my Swiss sandbox last night, I had recurrent CTD when I tried to recruit. Switzerland doesn't start with a standing army, of course, they're all armed-to-the-teeth reservists, I but wanted to build a standing unit to see how it worked. I had so many labourers in the Bern iron mines that I reckoned I could spare one, converted it to soldiers, got 30 manpower, went to the cannon button and pressed to recruit a division. CRASH. Every time. Sometimes it crashed as soon as I converted them, before I got as far as the army button. I could hear the hard-disk chomping on something heavy before it went down. I tried it with the pause button on, same deal.

Have I used a wrong procedure, or is it what happens on a minimum system? (BTW I have the 1.03.) If the latter, I'm going to uninstall and bow out, but maybe keep Victoria for when my business machine gets replaced and becomes my game machine. If the former, there's hope.

Just before this, I had the same thing when Lombardy revolted and I tried to trade techs with them before they got stomped by the Austrians. The moment I pressed the Offer Them button. CTD. But if I ignored them, the game progressed, so it wasn't a can-never-get-beyond-year-X issue as I had with CK.

I've played Victoria on a machine below the minimum system requirements without any serious issues. It would run slow as all hell, but I very rarely got CTDs... and when they did occur they were at random times and not triggered by any specific action. I'm thinking maybe there's a problem with the installation?

Turns out the army thing was coincidence, it just crashes at a certain date in 1863, can't take any more. My machine does just fine with all the games it's ever run except those from Paradox, so obviously it's my installation..... I tried at 16-bit colour, same deal, and that's all I'm qualified and prepared to tinker with. I'm not going to get into one of those "It's because your starsign clashes with the colour of your curtains, try eating more fibre" conversations with the techies. :-/ I'm uninstalling while I write, and signing off again, wishing all the goodfolks on this board happy gaming.

Well why not start a thread in the bug forum about this. If you have a recurrant and reporducable CTD then I know people who want to know about this.
