I have a question. I've "made" Poland which has actual borders. But there are places (Silesia and Pommerania) that have "100% North German Culture". How can I "persuade" Poles to migrate there? And kick the Germans out?

You'll have to overspill pops, but it's difficult to get them to go where you want them to. Editing the save file to make your migration targets into colonies helps a lot at times. Throwing the Germans out is much more difficult. You can put them out of work as well, forcing them to migrate, but they'll probably just pool elsewhere. If there are events that make Germans unhappy, they could emigrate voluntarily, but besides that I don't think you can.

Search for the name of the state in question (though sometimes it's shared by multiple countries, so then you'd have to make sure you're dealing with the proper slice), like this: name = "state name". You should see a line that says colony = no, simply change it to yes.

It may or may not work, it depends on all sorts of things I don't fully understand. But I did colonize Dalmatia and Anatolia with Italians in this manner.

That works too... Sepecuially on Very Hard.

The problem is that territory will end up completely unpopulated. Non-national pops are useful at RGOs and as soldiers.

You might consider immigration & assimilation. Be a democracy or ConMon with high plurality and social reforms enacted. Have full citizenship party in power - socialists are good and quite easy to install (100% poor taxes for a month before the elections). Expand RGO's to have free slots (or build factories and keep empty slots in them). The people should flock to you and you will have a decent chance they will be assimilated. That way you should get at least some Poles in the provinces. It doesn't matter in-game if they are first-generation Poles after all :) If you have good healthcare the pops should grow quite fast, too. I don't think you can reach Polish majority in the "Recovered Lands" though - too much Germans in them for that.

Why should you kick the Germans out ? You can use them for RGO's (Silesia has coal) or as soldiers.

And yes, Beowulf is right in saying that you should use your Polish citizens where they are. Especially that if you try to force them to migrate they can (and usually will) emigrate. You will be helping the USA then and still have your German problem.

High immigration & assimilation is also a good way to re-populate the Congress Poland, which is really sparsely settled in vanilla Ricky :(

Actually, depending on what pops you mobilize this can be VERY effective. The Ottoman Empire's default mobilization zone is Bulgaria so killing a million or so Bulgarians was a fairly simple matter :rolleyes:

Oh?

In my first VIP:R game as France I ended up almost wiping out the indigenous peoples of (northern) Algeria, leaving several French majority provinces by the turn of the century, as well as provinces with large French minorities. Granted the population was indeed low, I still managed to turn it in to a state with capitalists and industry. That was quite fun.



Ahistorically, I once did the opposite of what he did. As Prussia/Germany I invaded and took the rest of Congress Poland (already owning Krakow), and ended up giving myself frequent +10 Polish/Russian militancy events. When the Liberal (and Socialist) revolutions came around... Ouch, that was not fun. By the end of the game western/southern Congress Poland was German. Long, labourious and quite distracting.
