OK, so while playing as Castille y Leon ( under bourbon dynasty in hastings scenario ) i was getting pretty beat up by Cordoba. While the muslims beat me in pitch after pitch, I remembered something I'd read in the history books. Heres what I'm talking about..
"These conquests(the reconquista) could hardly have been made by the little Spanish kingdoms had they been solely dependend on their own resourses. From the beiginning of their offensive, however, they had drawn an endless supply of recruits from the French principalities to the north. In the eleventh century the illustrious monastery of Cluny, and later the papacy, gave active support to the holy cause of fighting the moslems, issuing widespread appeals for enlistment...As would be expected, a host of volunteers came from the nearby lands of Gascony, Toulouse, and Aquitaine; but men of the northern baronies also crossed the Pyrenees in large numbers. And many of these adventurers won fine spanish fiefs at the expense of the infidel. Eventually the royal hous of Portugal was to trace its decendent from a Burgundian knight who secured a border county with the hand of a Leon princess."
So here's what I'm proposing: A new group of events available only to Iberian Christian states while they are at war with moslem states. For most purposes it would be like a mercenary event, only there would be no cost(they are volunteers) and they would all be either Occitian or Frankish. I also figured they might come in slightly smaller numbers, since they are at no cost(Maybe between 150 and 300). To add additional flavor, i thought the event could also include one male courtier added to the player's court with a high martial skill(like the 'your child has encountered a knight' event)to possibly create historical situations where Frenchmen command the armies, and possibly even be given a position as marshal or even a title.
My problem is that, upon looking at the Events in the files, I'm finding these are different and more complicated than HOI. I was hoping maybe some others with more skills than me might also be interested in having events like these and could help write them. I think it is a good idea that holds to the historical aspect of the game and will also do its part to balance Iberia. If it works, it could even be suggested for the next patch.
