Just a little tip for those of you who like alternative history novels in the spirit of Mark Twain's 'A Yankee at King Arthur's Court' (although this book is much better).
The book? - '1632' by Eric Flint.
The basic premise is that a small American town is transported intact from the present day back to the year 1631, right in the middle of Germany (Thuringia to be exact) during the 30 years war.
Barring a dose of slightly nauseating American patriotism this is excellent light reading for those rainy summer days (or any other days for that matter), while you wait for EU to arrive.
Other good works in the same vein: The 'Worldwar' series by Harry Turtledove and 'Lest Darkness Fall' by L. Sprague de Camp.
