Hi there i would like some recommendations as to chosing a set of game rules that is a level more difficult than the current normal ironman set of rules.

I am thinking mostly of reducing the demesne limit to half. This seems to me the rule that will make the game more interesting without crippling the AI too much as well. AI ruler never seem to reach their demesne anyway.

What do you think makes for a challenging game?
I am not a power gamer (slight RP i would say) so nothing too challenging plus nothing that cripples the AI way too much. I am thinking that revolt size is a double edge sword.

Thank you in advance.

Putting ahistoric events(or whatever they're called) on unrestricted will up the difficulty a tiny bit. If you're playing pagans then putting reformations off will make the game quite a bit harder since you'll have to convert to feudalize.

I'd put local revolt power to maximum. It will force you to put have vassals who match their counties rather than matching your religion/culture
However can will cripple the AI by a lot, especially for small realms, but it's fun to watch :-D

Don't forget you can actually raise the game difficulty to "hard" in the options, as well. ;)

Otherwise, I'd take a look at this very fun scenario generator which also picks specific restrictions as an extra challenge: http://www.scenariogenerator.net/generators/crusaderkings

For example, this will give you the challenge to "always be honorable towards your family", "throw a feast every year", "never release prisoners", "always marry a ruler", "always say yes when offered the chance to become a heretic", etc.
I've just tried it and it gave me the job to play start as Trebizond, with the goal of wiping out the entire Karling dynasty while lowering taxes as low as I can.

I find these scenario restrictions really fun for RP. :) You can also check for hard achievements you don't have yet (e.g. Protector of the Holy Places, or Legacy of Rome, or The Outside Bet.

Thanks for the answers everyone!

Don't forget you can actually raise the game difficulty to "hard" in the options, as well. ;)

I had completely forgot about this!!!:confused:

So in your expirence does setting the game difficulty to hard makes for a good gameplay? From what i found it increases AI morale (which isn't bad) and make more unlikely for someone to accept your proposal - invite to court, support etc (which could be a bit frasturating).
