The CW has just came and went in my USA game. Of course I knew it was coming, but I tried not to cripple the South beforehand. However, I didn't go out of my way to help them either. When converting pops to soldiers I found the largest farmer/labourer pops were all yankees so I ended up having only 4 dixie divisions to my 20 yankees. Sure I could have build more dixie troops, but only by going out of my way to do so. As well as the standing army I'd build up a reserve of 60 divs to fight Mexico and GB. I can't say for sure all the pops mobilized weren't from the North, but they certainly all went to me when they depolyed. This mean the war was 85 to 9 divs and was over in a few months even though Mexico attacked me at the same time.

So anyway, what I think would be better is if the amount of troops given to the CSA was scaled to the military strength of the Union. And, if it doesn't already work like this, divisions in the reserve pool should go to the country who own their home province rather than the country which inreased the pool.

Well the problem is the US had a tiny army compared to yours IRL. IIRC, in the 1861 scenario the US starts with only a couple DIVs, so both sides get most of their troops from events.

I like this idea very much. In fact, when I playd my very first game was the US, I made sure to build all my military units in the North, simply because I assumed that any Dixie culture divisions would go seceed along with their home provinces. I see no reason this shoud not go for reserve pool divisions as well.

Check your reserve divisions upon mobilization for the ACW. If you notice, NONE are Dixie divisions--they are all Yankees. If you mobilize outside the ACW, you have Dixie divisions too (if you still have that culture). So the game actually does work like you want it to; however, that doesnt give the CSA any of the divisions you have in reserve.

I like to think of the Reserve/Mob pool a less about people than the stockpiling of arms, uniforms, equipment and ammo (read small_arms and canned food) in centralized depots and arsenals. Hence, when you increase the pool, you really arent increasing divisions of people, but the amount of stuff you have set aside for mobiliztion. You could do the same at the start of the war w/o a mob pool; you convert POPs to soldiers and then equip them as divisions.

Personally, I think the Mob Pool is one of the best ideas in Victoria...

Think of the reserve pool as state militia.

Yes, I know my army was ahistoricly masive :) But no player is going to sit there with 2 divisions, especially with the UK and Mexico prone to attacking you. I know the CSA gets some free troops, but it's no where near enough. On the other hand, giving them 50 divisions or something would screw a player who hadn't build up to that level so some kind of scaled eent would be best if it was possible.

In the year of '61,
We left our native land.
For we could not bend our spirits
To a tyrant's stern command.
And we rallied to our Buckner
While our hearts were sad and sore,
To offer our blood for freedom
As our fathers did before.

When first the Southern flag unfurled
Its folds upon the air,
Its stars had hardly gathered,
'Til Kentucky's sons were there.
And they swore a solemn oath,
And they sternly gathered round.
They would only live as free men
In the dark and bloody ground.

With Buckner as our leader,
And Morgan in the van,
We will plant the flag of freedom
In our fair and happy land.
We will drive the tyrant's minions
To the Ohio's rolling flood,
And we'll dye her waves with crimson
With coward Yankee blood.

Then cheer ye, Southern braves!
You still shall see the day
When Kentucky's fairest daughters
Will cheer you on your way.
And then her proud old mothers
Will welcome one and all,
For united we stand,
Divided we fall.
