(Edited note: This game wasnt finished. My savefile chrashed)

This is my first AAR. My goal is to unify or/and conquer all muslim nations, playing as Hedjaz (EU version 1.10 GC). The storyline is that Allah some late night send one of his angels to the ruler of Hedjaz, with a mission to gather all muslims under his rule, so that the people of islam once again may stand united.

A restriction I decedied to have is keeping a maximum tolerance against all muslims, sunni and shiites in all times. This gives not much tolerance left for other religions, but playing as a dedicated muslim, with a mission appointed by Allah to cleanse the globe from heathens. I thought this would be the only fair thing to do. Another thing a did was changing the state religion of Hedjaz to shiite. I figured I needed that extra moralbonus. By this I would also have a CB against sunni-nations. A thing that may come in handy.

In the year 1492 after beeing enlighted by Allah, Husseyn takes a quick look at the map. "Ah...If I only had better maps" He mumbled to himself. "To the south Aden and Oman. To the west the Mamlukes and to the east Iraq. Is those the only countries we have maps off?" He ask his advisor. "Im afraid so." The advisor answer, looking down the floor. "Well, well, well....Lets start with this then. Order a buildup of forces in our northern province of Jordan" Husseyn declares. "When Allah show us a sign that the time is right we must be ready".

The intention is to prosper on the coming war between the turks and the mamlukes. Unfortenely the turks declare war rather soon and Hedjaz have no diplomat. We can only sit still and watch the turks invade the lands of the mamlukes. The turks sweeps cross the lands, capture Syria, Judea, Samaria and finally a man enogh skilled to act as an ambassador arrives in Mecka. He is immidietaly sent to Cairo to declare war against the mamlukes. Now its a race against time and the turks. We send our army of 14.000 men to Cairo. Hoping that our brave warriors will arrive there before the turks do. But as we feared, the turks arrives there first and captures Cairo. Our efforts and war declaration has been fruitless. We cant send our army any deeper in to the mamlukes land, cause we have no knowledge of the lands and provinces west of Cairo. The army returns heading for Syria. The province is hold by the turks, but beeing denied a victory over the mamlukes Husseyn, in is rage, comes up with a new plan. "Lets make a visit to the Caliph of Bagdad" He declares.

In october 1493 We declare war against Iraq. Our army in Syria invade and begins to siege the province of Kirkus, as our army in Arabia awaits the move of the Caliph. The Caliph send his forces to Jordan and the roads to Bagdad is clear. The arabian army moves in to the province of Iraq, only to find out that the fortresses is to strong for a siege. Dissapointed they turn east and besiege Basrah instead. Seeing that this buildup of forces have drained our coffeins we take a loan. With this new gold we starts building up new forces.

It doesnt take long before Jordan falls in the hand of the Caliph. The army of the Caliph marchs towards Arabia. Kirkus and Basrah though, seems to hold on for ever. "Have the great Allah abandon me?" Husseyn asks himself. That night Husseyn prayes all night to Allah. Begging for mercy for every wrong he might have done. Allah answer his prayers and in July Kirkuk falls in the hands of our ever faitfull warriors. The army marches south to reinforce the units besieging Basrah. Six month later the Caliph capture Arabia and he turns his army towards Basrah. A fiercefull battle occur and Allah decides to grant us the victory. The Caliph withdraws to Bagdadh and the siege of Basrah can continue. Meanwhile we have been able to build a new army in Mecca. The men is committed to throw the forces of the Caliph out of our lands and begins to siege Arabia.

In July 1495 Basrah falls into our hands. Our army of 9000 men turns to Bagdad, where the army of the Caliph is stationed. As a battle occurs, the intensions of Allah is unclear. Neither our army nor the army of the Caliph winns the battle. Instead, our men is forced to withdraw to Kirkus as the iraqis withdraw to Jordan. In April 1496 Arabia falls and we send all our forces to Bagdad. Meanwhile we have been able to recruit another small army in Mecca. Husseyn sends them to Jordan where they easily beat the iraqis and starts a siege. Jordan falls in May and Bagdad in October. By the grac e of Allah the victory is ours. The territory of the Caliph is annexed and in the archive of the palace in Bagdad we find maps that reveals places that we never before heard of. It is now, when seeing all those far distant places, that Husseyn sees the long hard work that still lays ahead.

Hi Yoghurt -- glad to see a new "face" in the forum. I'll be following your AAR with interest, and hope you'll check out all the others that have been going on, as well. (Insert shameless plug for my own AAR...)

A few questions--

  • Are you using the IGC or did you hack the files to make the Hedjaz playable? Either way, are there other majors and if so, who?
  • Does Hedjaz start off in this campaign as a vassal of the Mameluks?
  • When you changed your starting state religion, did you also change the province religions as well?
  • Is your goal to unite all muslim provinces, or just to conquer all the muslim nations? Will you actively try *not* to conquer non-muslim provinces? (For example, I think some of Sibir's provinces are pagan and some are muslim.)
  • You also mentioned "cleansing the globe of heathens". Since this should include any non-muslim, will you actually try to conquer them (making this a world conquest game as the Hedjaz--no small task!) And if so, will you try to convert them all (even more insane!) Or will you simply administer beatings to them as opportunities arise, while not particularly trying to conquer them?

If you plan to limit your conquests to the muslim nations/provinces, then your intolerance for other religions might not hurt you too much -- you might pick up a few orthodox and catholic provinces here and there but unless the Ottomans really rampage through Europe, it shouldn't be too terrible.

Please put up some screenshots as you progress!

:D

Hi Morlac!

Thanks for your comments. I´ll try to answer your questions.

I dont use IGC.I use GC in EU 1 version 1.10. I only changed the files so Hedjaz instead of Ottoman empire would be playable, so all the other majors are in the game.

Hedjaz was free as a bird in the start of the game.

I only changed my state religion. I thougt, having maximum tolerance to both sunni and shiites would ensure me some peacefull provinces.

When Im finished I hope that there will be no more muslim nations left, except for Hedjaz, and that all provinces that have a muslim population, sunni or shiite, belongs to Hedjaz. All other provinces will be seen as "spoils of war" and I will hang on to them if the dont cost me to much. I will even try to convert them if possible.

I will not try to conquer the globe. Im satisfied with just a bit of it.

In November 1497 we celebrated our royal marrige with our newlie found friend Persia. A month later Husseyn was contacted by a man from Venice that wished us to join an alliance led by Venice. Husseyn accepts, thinking that such a friend must be valuable if we ever would be attacked by the turks.

As time passes by Husseyn recruits new soldiers for our coming wars. In the October 1500 Husseyn think the time is right for an assault on the great Ottoman empire. The turks had already been in war awhile against different foreign nations and with the help from our new ally it shouldnt be impossible to conquer a few provinces. As we thought Venice was more then happy to join us in our war against the turks. There where no turkish troops in sight so Husseyn sended one army to Egypt and another to Samaria. It didnt take long, however until an giant turkish army appered in the north. They assulted and conquered Kirkuk, followed by Iraq and Jordan. Not until after almost a year long siege did our brave men conquer Egypt. They immideatly marched against the Delta provinces. A smaller cavalry unit conquered Quattara, Cataract and the Nile. The turks, enraged over their loss of Cairo, soon engaged them self in an assault on the fortress in the Egypt province. At about the same time the turks conquered Egypt our fiercefull soldiers took Delta and Samaria. The army that was stationed in Samaria marched towards Lebanon that falled without any resistance, after that they turned to Syria.

In 1503 Our beloved leader died. Faysal inherited the position as head of state. He swoar an oath that he would fullfill the path that Husseyn had staked out for Hedjaz.

In January 1503 Syria falls into our hands. The turks, after they conquered Egypt, captures Judea. As the turks outnumber us with 5 to 1 Faysal is in a bad mood. Thinking that a quick white peace should be the best. But like a marvelous wonder the turks draw their forces back north. Maybe our friendship with Venice have been payed off? Faysal finds new courage and our troops soon captures Alexandra and liberates Kirkuk. After that Faysal offers a peace. He only wants Alexandra and the turks accepts. Finaly we are in peace again. Our finances have seen better days, but maybe all the trade that flourish throw Alexandra can give the economy a new injection. At least we hope so.

As time slowly goes. Faysal orders that new units should be recruited. As the turks still fights in different wars and no turkish troops have been seen near our borders, Faysal decides to make a drastic action. He declares war against Turkey, although we have a peace signed with them. The stability drops but the morale of the troops is still good. I doesnt take long until we controll Aleppo, Samaria and Syria. Faysal offers a peace in October 1506. Declaring that he wants Syria and Samaria. The turks accepts and Faysal is celebrated as a great conquer by our people. Now we controll great cities as Alexandra, Jerusalem, Damascus and Bagdad. The cost has been high. Our finances is at the bottom and so are our stability. We have already 3 loans and no way off paying them back. Under this conditions Faysal is still able to convince some merchants to grant him 2 loansto uppgrade our fortresses. It didnt take long however until we where forced to declare bancrupty.

After the bancrupty Faysal decided that the nation could use a period of recovering. But Allah wanted otherwise. Turkey declared war against Hungary. Hungary was an ally to Venice so Venice took up to arms and asked us to do the same. As Faysal was very concerned of our nations relations with this christian seapower nation, our forces crossed the borders to Turkey the very next day.

Within a year, with no major turkish troops in the vicinity, we controlled the provinces of Quattara, Nile, Sinai, Judea, Lebanon, Aleppo and Nuyssaybin. The turks, as we understand it, was fighting Hungary in the far west. When another year had passed we also controlled the provinces of Sivas, Cataract and Angora. Faysal decided that the time for offering peace had come. He asked for Angora, Sivas and 250.000 gold coins. The turks accepted and gave us controll over both Angora and Sivas. The gold however wasnt payed to its fully amount. Only about 100.000 gold coins reached our borders. The turks said something about bad financials, complained about bandits and so on. Faysal was however satisfied and the peace was signed.

After this glorius victory, Faysal was celebrated as one of the mightiest warrior and generals in our nation since Muhammed himself. The people of Sivas and Angora however wasnt so happy to be ruled from Mecca. They had a tendency to revolt now and ever then, so Faysal placed some of his most trusted troops in those provinces.

It was a day of mourning when Faysal one night fell a sleep for the last time in his palace. It was in January 1513 that Allah called upon him, to join the ranks of the blessed and brave ones in paradise. Ali, the oldest son of Faysal, inherited his fathers position.

It was under the rule of Ali that we where able to build our first cannons. The knowledge had come from our enemies the turks themself. Altough they costed a small fortune, Ali decided to build ten pieces of these cannons to join the ranks of the army in Alexandra. Not long after this, Ali young and eager to prove himself in battle as his father had did, broke the peace with the turks. The decision was maybe popular among the troops, but defenitely not among the people. The people in Samaria rebelled and begun to besiege the fortresses. In mars they took controll over Samaria and crossed the dessert to Jordan. Ali didnt want to waste any troops on them so he let them besiege that province to. Soon about 40.000 turkish men crossed the Bospore (The turks was still in war with Hungary and Venice) and took controll of Sivas and Syria. After that they assaulted Angora and captured it in about same time that we captured Judea. The war didnt go well and Ali began to think that he had digraced himself in front of Allah. The turks offered a peace. They wanted the provinces of Syria, Sivas and Angora. Ali refused.

To try to get the upperhand Ali decided to take a loan. With this new money he ordered new troops to be recruited. In October Turkey and Hungary signes a peace. Hungary gets Bulgaria and Kosovo. This means that the entire turkish army will be marsching towards us. Knowing that at least 35.000 new turkish troops will marsch against him, Ali prayes to Allah. The prayers of Ali seemed to have some effect. Egypt falls into our hands in December 1516. The fall of Adana and some minor provinces in Egypt some time later into our hands give us an advantage over the turks. In July we sign a peace with the Ottoman empire. Ali can call himself fortunate when they grant us the provinces of Adana and Egypt.

While the war is over there is still much work to do for our troops. Both Samaria and Jordan is in the hands of rebells. Stability is low and we still have to repay that loan that gave us new fresh soldiers. Ali have grown somewhat more wiser and decides to avoid any war in the near future.

Time went by and the recovery was slow but headed on well. In June 1521 we where able to repay our debt. A half year later Ali was murdered by an assasin. When captured and questioned by our tortures, the assasin admitted being send by the turks. They wanted revenge for their defeat. With no children that could inherit him, the rule passed by to Khaleb, a younger brother to Ali.

I didnt take long before the warmongering turks wanted blood again. This time they declared war on Venice. Hungary came to their aid and so did we. In a year, with the turkish troops fighting back west, we captured Quattara, Cataract, Sinea, Judea and Aleppo. When Lebanon and Aloppa also fall in our hands, Khaleb offered the turks peace. The provinces of Delta and Nyassabin came now under our ruling.

Time still passed by and in February 1527 Hungary and Turkey signed a peace. A bit later Venice also agreed to peace. The war had, though their losses to us, went well for the turks. They had gain Kosova, Bulgaria and Istria.

The peacefull years that passed by, under the ruling of Khaleb had an positive effect. He and his government became more and more popular among the people.

In August 1538, Khaleb, remembering the holy duty he and his people had be given by Allah, declared war against the Ottoman empire. To many muslims lived under the rule of the Sultan. As expected Venice joined us in our rightfull war. In Mars 1539 Alepo fell in our hands, April, the Nile, July, Judea and in October Lebanon. No major turkish forces opposed us. Only a small unit was besieging Aleppo, trying to free the city from our hands. They where soon defeated. In August 1540 we defeat a turkish army outside of Constantinople and start a siege of the turkish capital. We now also controlls all teh provinces of Egypt and Minor Asia. Khaleb is already dreaming of conquering the entire Ottoman empire, but seeing his forces at Constantinople being crushed by the turks he change is mind. The time isnt right. The Empire is still to strong. He asks for, and recives Anatolia and Smyrna.

After this victory our army has almost vanguished. Khaleb starts to recruit more troops, cause he know it wont be long until the next war is on the horizon.

The years went by and Khalebs good government increases his popularity and the stability of the nation. Only some minor battles against rebells in the new provinces disturb the peace. In July 1549 Khaleb think the time is right . The forces of Hedjaz are small, but he will try his luck anyway. This time both Venice and Hungary join us in our struggle.

After 2 years of fighting. We had captured all the turkish provinces in Egypt and Minor Asia except for Konya. The turks on their behalf had conquered Anatolia and besieges Smyrna. As we fight our way through the enemie lines to Constantinople, Khaleb begins to think of his old dream of conquering the whole Ottoman empire. A problem we face is that the turks controll Rhodes. To get there we need boats, so Khaleb give the orders to build a navy in Alexandra. After some time all our forces have been almost anhilihated. To our favour we have almost capured 2/3 of the Ottoman empire. To Khalebs disapointment the building of a navy proceed very slowly and the turkish Sultan still have strong troops at his disposal. Rather than facing a future defeat he decides offering a peace, that the turks accepts. Khaleb wraps up the map and takes a look on his empire.

In October 1562 Khaleb thought the time was right for another war. The navy had been built and new troops had been recruited. What he didnt expect was that Aden joined Turkey in the war. He damned his advisors not having their eyes and ears on alert. We had no troops in our rear and now we faced the risk of a twofronts war. We quikly conquered Constantinople but unfortenuly our assault on Rhodes was a failure.

Soon after the capture of Constantinople an large turkish army crushed our forces outside their capital. Our beloved Khaleb was among the victims. He had fought bravely and led the nation to many victories in his long time as a regent. Now his son Sanaa took charge of the government. He soon maked sure that we controlled some minor provinces and then offered peace. Judea and the Nile was now ours.

Sanaa, seeing his fathers endless struggles against the turks, didnt believe in his fathers dreams. The Ottoman empire was to strong. Instead he turned his eyes to the east, to Persia. Persia was an ally to the Khanate of Crimea, but this didnt stop Sanaa. He declared war on Persia in May 1566. Soon the terrible forces of the khanate had sweeped down our lands and captured Trabzon, Syria, Kirkuk and Nuyassaybin. Sanaa sees no other alternative, being unable to repell the tartars, then accept a peaceoffer from the tartars. Trabzon is lost. This was the first time that Hedjaz had lost any territory in a war. Sanaa was ashamed.

By granting Trabzon to the Khanate of Crimea. Sanaa can concentrate his forces on the war with Persia. Hamad and Kars falls into our hands and soon also Isfahan. Our forces are depleted, so Sanaa asks for peace and Hamad and Kars witch we gets in January 1572. In April 1572 the turks declare war against Venice, our ally. We refuse to help them as our forces are way to weak to fight another war so soon. The merchant republic seemed to understand our point of view and the next month we are offerd to join the alliance again.

In November 1576 an intresting event occurs. The Ottoman empire declares war on Crimea and Persia. Sanaa seing an oppertunity await his time. Two years later we declare war on Persia. This time we where not harazed by the tartars. They had probably their hands full with the turks. Tabriz, Awhaz and Isfahan is soon captured. Sanaa offer the Shah a peace and he accepts. Tabriz and Awhaz is now ours.

In May 1582 Venice declares war on Turkey. Once again they want our help and once again we refuse. However a couple of days later we are invited to the alliances again.

Sanaas politic had given our nation bad stability. The wars with Persia wasnt popular among the people and neither was to abandon an ally. To worsen things, Sanaa once again declared war against Persia in September 1585. In this war Sanaa died in a battle outside Elbruz. Manamah, oldest son of Sanaa inherited him. Manamah seemed to be a great general. We soon controled Azerbadjan, Kurdistan, Elbruz, Isfahan, Khorasan, Kerman and Baluchtistan. For many years the war went on and Manamah tried to fullfill his fathers dream of conquering Persia, but soon our menpower and resorces was depleted and Manamah didnt want to take any loans or risk to lose the war, so he offered the Shah a peace. Balucht and Kurdistan was no under our ruling.

In July 1596 the time seemed right for another war against Persia and Crimea. As we thought the hordes of the tartars sweept downt and burned many of our cities. We offered them Kurdistan for peace and they accepted. Now we could concentrate on Persia. A year after the peace with the Khan we had captures Azerbadjan, Isfahan and Kerman, when another year had passed we also controlled Armenia, Khorasan and Hormuz. The war went well and a total destruction of Persia wasnt no longer only a dream.

In 1601 Manamah died of a wound he had gained on the battlefield. Dammam inherited the position as the head of state. In May 1602 Venice asks for our assistance against the turks. We refuse as we have no men to spare. The next month we joined the alliance again. In February 1603, with the grace of Allah, we had defeatd and conquered all the provinces of Persia. The Shah himself was beheaded and Persia was annexed. Dammam was also satisfied when he heard the news that 15 ships, from the former persian navy had swoar loyalty towards him.

In July 1611, Dammam decided to try his luck. As he had anhiliate the persians he hope to do the same with the turks. War is declared and The Khanate of Crimea and Cyreanica joins Turkey as Venice join our side. The war is hard and fiercfull. We are able to negotiate a white peace with the tartars and then conquer the Emirate of Cyreanica. Our men fights bravely and with great skill, and so does the turkish troops. In May 1623 Venice signes a peace with Turkey. As Dammam have no hope of crushing the turks without any ally, he signes a peace. Macedonia and Hellas now come under our ruling. This gave us some strong bastions on the other side of the Bospore.

In June 1625, Dammam decides to break the peace treaty and declares war against Turkey again. This time no one come to our help. We where without any allies. Dammam made some smaller conquests and then offered a peace. Aleppo and Sinai was ours.

The time after the war, Dammam concentrated on building up our army and navy. “Ah, next time I will take you and forever hold you” He wisphered to himself, when he starred at the turkish capital of Constantinople across the Bospore.

The year 1635, war was declared once again. We launched an assault on Rhodes, that to Dammams great satisfaction, was succesfull. Four years later we had gain some lands, but our forces was depleted. Dammam had to see the facts and sign a peace, This time he demanded and was granted, Rhodes and Quattara.

“The turks is indeed an anoying people” Dammam declared at his palace. “Yes, master” His advisors answered. “Why cant they just give it up. They must know that sooner or later we will add their so called empire into our. Wouldnt it be better for them to give up now, peacefully, than be crushed by the wrath of Allah?” He asked his advisors. “Well, master” They answered. “Would we ever give up if we was in the same situation as the turks.” “Never” Dammam declared. “We would fight to the bitter end.” “And so will the turks” His advisors remarked.

The time that passed now was a rebellius time. The new provinces in Grecce wasnt at all satifyied by being ruled from Mecca. To add to the confusion. A general named Ibn Ayyub revolted. And took one third of our provinces with him. A civil war had occured. Among the rebelling provinces was Mecca. Dammam striked down hard against those who opposed him and in one of his battles he fell. In 1646 his son inherited him. His name was Jafr and he tried to give peace and stability to the nation again. In 1646 the last rebelling province was under our ruling again.

As Jafr dreamed of fulfilling his fathers dream, he declared war on Turkey in September 1649. The war went well except for one set back, the tartars. Jafr had to grant them the province of Azerbadjan. In the peace with the turks in 1652 we, on the other hand, was granted Cataract, the Cyklades and Morea. Sitting in his chamber, Jafr took a quick look at the map.

In September 1657 we declared war against Turkey once again, and after many hard battles we where finaly able to annex them in July 1660. Their allies Oman and Aden signed peace the next month.Finaly we had defeated the hard fighting turks and the joy we felt was overwhelming.

In 1662, as we where recovering from our recent war, Russia declared war against us. The Pope did the same some days later and so did Portugal. Portugal we where able to bribe with 250.000 gold coins. Russia, on the other hand, we had to grant Azerbadjan. As Russia was the leader of the alliance, the Pope was satisfied by this.

It didnt take long however, until we where back stabbed again. Nubia, Crimea, Tripolitania and Aden declared war 1663. Even Portugal joined them in an attempt to destroy us. Once again we where able to bribe off the portoguese. This time with the sum of 500.000 gold coins. We had to do the same with Aden. If this wasnt enough, Venice declared war in 1665. Our forces had by this time been able to conquer Batn al Hajar, so we where able to sign a peace with Nubia and Crimea, but the joy wasnt lasting long. The year after the peace with Nubia, Poland and France declared war. We where very much surprised bu this, as we almost never heard of those countries before. What could they have against us?

In 1667 we defeated one of our enemies, Tripolitania. We annexed them and sended praises to Allah, only to face two new enemies, Algier and Morocco. The next year the heathen russians declared war once again. The wars went bad for us. Venice had made great gains so we granted them Macedonia. Algier forced us to pay 250.000 gold to them for peace. We had to do the same with all of our enemies, pay them great sums of gold to be able to sign peace with them.

After all these great wars our nation was poor and defenseless. We slowly started our recovery. In 1680 Suwaida inherited the throne. He started a war against Aden two years later. We feered interference by other nations but all was calm, so Suwaida was able to annex Aden in 1684. In 1686 Suwaida decided to try his luck ones again. He declared war against Oman. Crimea entered the war on behalf of Oman. Portugal also decided to support Oman. In 1687 we had conquered all the mainland of Oman, only to find out that the Sultan had a bastion on a far distand island, called Zanzibar. When our navy tried to set sail for that far distant island they where defeated by the navy of Oman. We decided to pay Portugal a sum of 500.000 gold coins to be able to sign a peace with them. Suwaida knew that Portugal had strong naval forces and understood that we wouldnt have a chance trying to defeat both the naval forces of Oman and Portugal. In February 1689 we where able to set our navy to sail to Zanzibar, only to find out that the island was defended by 31.000 men strong army. We needed reinforcements. Not until August 1690 where we able to land forces on Zanzibar. The fortress was however soon conquered and in January 1691 Oman was annexed.

Suwaida blinded by his conquests once again set our forces on the move in 1697. This time we declared war against Nubia. It didnt take long until we found ourself in a war with Crimea, Algier, Venice, Russia, Portugal, Poland and Georgia. Poland, Russsia, Algier and Crimea we where able to pay off with great sums of gold. And in 1700 Suwaida fell in a battle against the forces of Georgia. Minya inherited him.

“Unfortunaly” I installed IGC 2.3 on my computer and ever since I havent been able to play my saved game properly. It goes a couple of years and then BOOM! The game crash. I dont know why and I´ve have tried to play my saved game a million times (at least it feels as a million times). So I have to quit my AAR in the year of 1700. I didnt fullfill my intensions, and honestly saying I dont think I would be able to do it in another 92 years. It has however been fun writing and playing it and I hope that someone have read it and enjoyed reading it (laughing at all mistakes I´ve done). If anyone have any comments regarding this AAR, like, you should have done that , not that, feel free to write a comment.

Sorry to hear this. If you were really interested in recovering, I would suggest archiving the save file, then uninstalling and reinstalling just EU.

If I understand correctly, IGC changes MANY of the game files, such that it probably causes the computer a nervous breakdown trying to play an EU GC saved game with the IGC alterations.
