((Yeah... sorry for that... I am going to have to go with this: The transition was meant to be peaceful but then sort of backfired and turned into a bloodier affair (though not an out-right civil war which would have ruined Azlanxo).))

Name:Illriyo Moruterrar

Date of Birth: 19nth December 1318 (aged 38).
Place of Birth: Ethis, Azlenxo.
Representing The Wholesome Brotherhood-A Thieves Guild-
Height: 5ft 4in.
Weight: 83kg.
Physical Description: The Petyr Baelish with an Atlantean tan.

Ethnic Origin:Norran

Parent’s Names & Background:
Sired by a sellsword father and birthed by a Norran whore Illryio was brought into the world without a penny to his name. His mother set him out begging for gold when she was with her "Patrons" he would wander the streets begging for gold, if he did not return with a set amount of gold he would be beaten. So he took to thievary, he would steel from the pockets of high-lords and ladies until one day a botched attempt to steal from a man in a hooded cloak ended with him being knocked unconsious. When he awakened he had found himself inside a dark chamber surrounded by men garbed in hoods speaking in hushed whispers to one another. One spoke up and told him they were "The Wholesome Brotherhood" a band of hooded rogues who would commit a variety of crimes-for a price. They gave him the opportunity to become their apprentice. He happily accepted leaving behind his old life behind and going out on the streets to steal from the purses of lords and ladies and listen in on their conversations, for secrets he learned were most valuable of all. He grew up and rose threw the ranks of the brotherhood by the time he reached adulthood the boy became their leader as their previous commander met a mysterious accident on Illriyo's 18nth name-day. He took the Brotherhood in a new direction dealing exclusively in the secrets of the powerful men of Ethis. He would hire serving wenches and cup-bearers of the great castles of the land to grab documents and commit their contents to memory. Then hurry back to him and spilling the juciest secrets of the masters of the realm. He used these secrets well and through bribery and blackmail became the wealtheist man in Ethis.
When the Revolution occurred he beckoned supporties of the old regime to the city where they could pool their resources to rebuild the armies and crush the rebels. Once arising he softened their minds and their wallets with sweet wine and talk of taking back the country. As they drank themselves into a stupor the guards seized their persons and put them in chains to be given to the new government in turn for half of their combined wealth. With their wealth he quadrupled the cities treasury and decided to become the Senator of his fair city.
His last name long forgotten he has taken the name Moruterrar, an old Antalantean phrase for "He who bears secrets"

Social Class: Enriched Peasantry
Education: Self-taught
Occupation: Guildmaster, Self-Styled "Protector of Ethis" secretly professional thieve.
Community Status: Puppetmaster of the city, adored by the low-born for his populist poltical leanings and lavish feasts he throws for them, feared by the nobility for all that he represents and what he is capable of, despised by the merchant class for his anti-merchant policies.
Skills: Brilliant strategist, Sly, fast-talker, good with a knife, better a sword.

Political Beliefs:Heavily dislikes the nobility for their feeling of undeserved entitlement, also dislikes the merchant class, on a personal level seeing them as threats to his power, but on an ideaological level seeing them as little lords who abuse their power over the common folk and who care more for profit then for the realm. Believes in protectionism in trade and a strong centrilized government.

Religious Beliefs: A devout follower of Denzon, claims to be his mortal descendant.

Hobbies/Entertainment: Civasse, Atlantean Chess, Riddles, elaborate and often morbid pranks.
Strengths: Smart, has almost total control of Ethis, is feared by many, great ambition
Weaknesses: Massive Paranoia, huge ego, disliked by many, a gambiling addiction
Ambitions: Will be revealed in time.
Fears/Phobias: Becoming a beggar, being outsmarted.
Type of Humour: Very Dead-Pan and Sarcastic.
General Health: Pale and Skinny.
Distinguishing Marks: Pretends to be a cripple and walks with a cain, can actually walk fine but likes having people understimate him
Disabilities: Pretends to have a limp but doesn;t.
Cultural Tastes: Enjoys the company of commoners over nobility or merchants and often sits with them at feasts and parties.

Has been quietly observing those who have spoken so far, watching and keeping track of little details.
I cast my vote for the Populares the needs of the masses should come first.

Seeing that both Senators Krupt and Smigt have finished their epic debate, Graetius Tauronian stands up and slowly begins to clap...

...*clap*...........*clap*............*clap*................

soon he is followed not only by his fellow Populares but also by the independents as well as Senator Tsharthagion and the Mercators...

....*clap*.....*clap*......*clap*....*clap*........*clap*......

the clapping steadily became louder, faster, and less deliberate....

*clap*..*calp*..*clap*..*clap*..*clap*..*clap*..*clap*..*clap*

and in seconds the forum was flooded with the jubilant cheering and laughter of the senators. The Mercators shook hands with the Populares and together they joined hands and pranced out of the forum. Another glorious day in Atlantis...

Historians would later regard this event as the first known account of the slow clap and, even today, Graetius Tauronian is known as the father of the slow clap.

Illriyo, regains his composure not sure what had come over him to make him prancing around and singing like a school girl.
Uh yes, now it is likely that the Populares will win the election with an absolute magority, or at the very least be the head of a coalition government. Perhaps its time to start mapping out the policy of our party for our first 8 years?

Senator Solangus Balvaksin sits alone in the forums....his mouth open, he is very confused. Solangus looks around to see if anyone else was completely baffled by the sudden silliness that overtook the Senate just then.

No one else is there, just half opened scrolls and dust.

"Well" Solangus says to no one in particular "I guess this meeting is over."

He picks up his scroll, adjusts his toga and leaves the senate.

"I wonder what tomorrow shall bring."

((Okay, with that I call voting closed the final results:

Populares: 9
Mercators: 5
Optimates: 1

The Populares gained 17 points (ceiling of 16.2) to spend on their ruler. They have a week (though it could be less) to decide their cabinet and decide whether or not to court the Mercators into forming a coalition. Because they have an absolute majority, the Populares do not need to share power at all.

I'll have an update up sometime in the next few days over the election (or what I could gather from it) and if the leader of the Populares could contact me via PM, I can get the ball rolling and maybe play a little tonight.

My plan for the mod is that whatever happens in this game is more or less canon for the mod.))

Applause erupt from the Populares, who immediately rise to give their new imperator a standing ovation. They are followed by the moderates and independents, many of whom clap and nod in approval. The Mercators are torn: some rise not to acknowledge the imperator, but to flee the forum (No doubt that common thug shall put all dissidents to the blade!”). Some, notably Senator Erodel Krispin, stand in recognition of the Populares’ victory. Graetius reaches the podium and waits for the applauding to die down. His dark brown eyes, once glazed and distant from lack of sleep now burn with a yet unseen vigor. These eyes quickly scan the forum, pausing for a split second on the standing Mercators. Graetius then casts his eyes downward, and scratches his beard, a sure sign of deliberation (“By the Gods… surely he has a written a speech for this occasion…”). Turning his eyes back to the Senate, Graetius begins

Friends, fellow Atlanteans, fine servants of the people, today a victory has been won. Today not only I but also for the Populares, the common man, Aztlanxo, and the Gods have triumphed.

There were many who said that the overthrow of the old order would lead only to another form of Oligarchical rule. They scoffed at us when we formed a united front, the Populares, bent on installing true republic in Aztlanti society. They mocked our calls for an egalitarian government and now they, along with their wealthy patrons –aristocratic carryovers from a bygone feudal era-, do not dare walk the streets, too afraid of the righteous wrath of the people to even leave their homes to gather and plot my downfall in secret. During the next eight years I shall make it a top priority to keep these schemers from power and I am sure that all of you, whether Mercator, Optimate, or Populare, shall do your utmost to discredit these and banish them from government.

In order to both prevent political polarization and promote unity in the Senate, it is fitting that, I, on behalf of the Populares, extend an olive branch to the many Mercators who would take it. Our parties are far less ideologically distant than some may have the Aztlanti people believe and, while the complete fusion of our two parties into a coalition would not be prudent at this time given the majority by which the Populares have won and the few but profound differences between our agendas, I will gladly install many members of the Mercators in positions of power within my administration. We need shrewd businessmen and financiers just as we need brave generals, gifted admirals, and apt provincial governors. We need to fill these positions based on merit and therefore I will, for the rest of the day, open my mead hall to any Senator who thinks himself worthy of a ministerial position. I hope that in the future the Populares and the Mercators can work together to bring glory and freedom to Aztlanxo.

In the next eight years there will be challenges that the Aztlanti people will have to face. We are currently in a state of limited war with the tribesmen of the west, we have very strained relations with the Eurpans in the East, and, as always, the warlike Norrans wait patiently for a chance to strike at our rich and bountiful lands. Do not fear, my fellow citizens! While I have never been a great diplomat, I can lead our men to glory on the battlefield and instill fear and caution among our would-be attackers. Surely, after I put down the Urollans they shall look Aztlanxo and see not only a wealthy trade hub but also the home of the best soldiers in Aztlanxo. We will not only have the best fighters in the continent though… we will have the full strength of the Gods. I am sure that Ozur himself shall be with me on the field of battle.

Someday Atlantis shall be the unparalleled capital of the world. Someday the Sun shall never set upon our mighty and far-flung lands. Someday the continent will be united….. and I intend to play a part in its unification. May the Gods be with you all and may the Gods bless these next eight years. I shall, with my cabinet, work hard to make these dreams a reality.

---Graetius---

"I look forward to a bright future, and I trust that Graetius, those of the soon to be formed Cabinet, the rest of the Populares and this very Senate will bring about this bright future. Our nation is entrusted to you Graetius for the next eight years."- Auron Desimodius
