OK, Playing Estician (or something. the nation west of Macedonia that starts with the war against rome) I had some barbarians come into one of my new northern province I had colonized a few years earlier. I move my army in, and when they arrive, the barbarians changed to Dacii troops, who I was not at war with (no war at the time). My troops arrive, no battle. But it shows the province under seige, and eventually it "falls". But nothing happens. It is still my province and all seems well. Except the dacii troops are still there. Years go by, and they stay there and I finally go to war with a nation that is allied with Dacii. I have troops in the nation, they declare war on me, the battle starts and CTD.
I can recreate it from my save right before I declared war, everytime. Any ideas?
I have noticed large hordes of barbarians invading a country and then disappearing when my (or other nations) troops arrive.

BTW, VV, all patches.
