[SOLVED] Rebasing navy beyond range

Hello, I'm a totally newcomer to HoI. I didn't see the answer in the manual nor strat guide, so I'll ask here.

I'm the UK in '36. I'd like to sail HMS Argus to Gibraltar but it doesn't have the range. Does this means that I can't get this CVE in the Med until I get some kind of extended range tech?

Has anyone noticed that, regarding naval range, you seem to be not limited very much at all. I was trying to bring a transport fleet from europe to my beachhead in canada. I wanted to stage another landing just outside the existing beachhead..naturally it was too far from from french bases ( where the army to be transported was based) so i was going to stage to my occupied port in st Johns, new foundland. However when i got to the sea zone next to saint johns ( not in the actual port mind) lo' and behold i could move as per normal and land my forces on hostile land. Is that how it's meant to be?
So, as long as you have a port somewhere, you can stage close to it and then, somehow, have your full move available again?

As soon as you choose "rebase" as mission, the naval base for that fleet is changed (even long before your fleet has arrived). Any new missions you give will have it's range calculated from the port you chose to rebase to.

Rebasing has not helped for me. I'm playing the USA and I cannot move ships from Norfolk to the Wes Coast. Yet I can move from the West Coast to Norfolk. I like the game, but I cannot play it because of this.

West Coast is not a province. Norfolk is province with a base. See the difference?
Select your fleet in Norfolk and right click on a province on the west coast, for example San Diego, and select rebase.

huge necro by the way in which the answer was even given:
thanks, I was clicking on the adjacent sea zone, which is out of range, instead of on the base. By doing that, I didn't get the rebase option, hence my question.
