Really slow game speed

This game is great, but running so slow that I can't stand to play any more! I am the US, waiting until the Japanese attack, and the hours crawl along at a snail's pace. This is even slower than HoI3! I have the speed setting on "extremely fast" of course.

What can I do to speed things up?

The two suggestions made in this thread made a huge difference for my 4 year old PC running on Win XP and has save time and game speed pretty close to vanilla HOI2/DD etc. early and mid-game (I've nor done much past the early 40s yet).

Hi,

I have AVG as well. Thanks for the tip. I followed your instructions. So I started my saved game and after 20 min tried a Save. I counted 23 Seconds that was far better as before(1,5 Min.) Now playing the game for 2 Hours I did another Save and this time was 1,5 Mins.

Speed still lags.

Any suggestions?
