I see all this talk and workshop files regarding props and assets. Exactly what are they and what's the difference ? Thank you kindly ...

I'm not a modder, but I would define them this way:

Assets are generally buildings, parks, etc. that you can place in-game.

Props are smaller items that you use to decorate assets (not in-game, in editor). Flags, mailbox, a car, BBQ, sign, pile of debris, trees, flowers, bushes, rocks, fence...

There are mods that can allow you to place props in-game though.

Some could be both... vehicles are good examples. You will sometimes see a plane or truck or train that is a prop to be placed, with another version of it that is an asset that will appear in-game.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Edit: Corrected spelling of "trees".

Could have not said it better myself.

The only thing I would add is that you don't have to download all the props that come with an asset. Even though they're usually very small, some of them aren't and all that small stuff can add up. The game isn't like SC4 where if you didn't have all the props the asset wouldn't appear. I always look at the asset and see if I can live without a prop to keep down the memory drain.

Yeah, not all props are necessary. But if you have the RAM to handle a high number of props/assets, then here's the approach I take:

- Have a collection of props and trees, and stay subscribed to that all the time so you can use them in detailing.
- Have other collections of assets such as residential buildings, unique buildings, etc.
- When you want to add a building to your city, find the one you like in your collections, then subscribe to it and add it to a collection for that specific city.

This allows you to keep track of thousands of good assets in the workshop without subscribing to them all at once.
