Chess is one of the simplest games to program an AI for yet non-programmers keep using it as an example of complexity. Sigh.

It may be simple to program (I wouldn't know) but this would seem too belie the intricate strategy that grandmasters employ to beat each other. I suppose I can believe it because many of chess's moved are forced, but I still think it is amazing that by making your opponent double his pawns on move 12, one can forsee how this slightest weakness can be exploited by a winning combination in move 30.

I have not bought the game yet, because I've taken a wait and see attitude. However, there is a 90% chance I will buy the game.

Why? Seeing that I own EU2, and have seen that game evolve through patches, I can say with confidence that Paradox makes good patches. They do care a lot about their products and listen closely to fans.

I'll keep returning here to read player comments. If things start to look good, I'm buying.
