I mean It's barely 1470 and a 9 province Guyene vassal is costing 1400 diplo points to integrate this early into the game? I could understand it been around the 900 diplo mark but 1400 diplo points to integrate that? it seems way too excessive imo. Am i alone on this?

No, you're trying to integrate practically the entire kingdom of Aquitaine. That's gonna take a long long LONG time. Look at how many years it took the U.S to integrate the South back in to the country.

Then elaborate on why you believe arbitrary number X is more realistic than arbitrary number Y.

Because having a diplomat annexing a savoy sized nation for 23 years at the start of the game seems ridiculous to me. Plus the integration cost alone is 2 diplo tech's.

Is there any comparable historical situations that could be argued to be representative of the situation? Is there anything like that influencing your level of ridicule?
I fail to see how bringing in real life incidents is going to impact at all on a game in which monarch points are a thing. Do you have any historical situations where countries use magical points to annex land, do you have any evidence that the ottomans didn't go 100 percent overextension when annexing Mamluks in 15 years? That's why you shouldn't bring in real life situations into a simulator game, its not historical simulator. At the end of the day the main point of the game is fun. Having 1 diplomat for 23 years is not my idea of fun.

You do realize that 9 province Guyenne is larger than most modern European countries, right? If anything, coring and annexing were just too cheap in the past.

I couldn't be happier with the increased coring costs. No more unrealistic superblobbing! Smaller countries actually have a fighting chance now.

Hey. I can already see the PU integrate exploit used to big extent. Castile will feed Aragon pretty much all of France then click a button and "magically" integrate.
England will feed Scotland. Poland will feed Lithuania. ....any others?

Before in patch 1.11 this would be like 480-600 to annex. Compared to then, this increase is pretty damn ridiculous
I agree. People might find the number reasonable since you're integrating a lot of land. That's a solid way of thinking but gaming wise it's the comparison to what we had before that matters: annexing costs almost doubled - and there is no way to offset that (other than influence ideas which help a bit). Ok the diplo for taking provinces has been slightly reduced, but that still doesn't add up.

I'm not saying the change made the game worse, I'm having a lot of fun in my first campaign - but it feels that expanding has once again been quite heavily punished in order to make people develop their provinces. It's not yet fully balanced I feel.

The main gripe is yes the time to annex, The secondary complaint is the utter increase in cost which has about Tripled from previous cost's. I also fail how you expect me to have ideas as England considering the starting king is a 0,0,0 and once you get an heir the war of roses event stops. so a good few years of 0,0,0

I fail to see how bringing in real life incidents is going to impact at all on a game in which monarch points are a thing. Do you have any historical situations where countries use magical points to annex land, do you have any evidence that the ottomans didn't go 100 percent overextension when annexing Mamluks in 15 years? That's why you shouldn't bring in real life situations into a simulator game, its not historical simulator. At the end of the day the main point of the game is fun. Having 1 diplomat for 23 years is not my idea of fun.
Monarch points are an abstraction. It seems quite reasonable to use history as a reference for what they represent, namely a country's ability to devote administrative and human ressources and attention.
Also, maybe, just maybe it was a bad strategic decision to vassal feed Guyenne up to a point were it got too costly to annex if your plan was to annex them all along. Forcing a player to make tradeoffs and to plan longterm instead of just map painting mindlessly is my idea of fun and good game design in a strategy game.
