Totally reworked combat mechanics, new missions and realistic combat behaviour and losses


I know the new missions like Artillery Bombardment from the Dev Diaries, but I wondered if
realistic combat behaviour and losses
will cause a higher MP drain becaue on the average the losses were too tiny right?


Will the duration of INF vs INF battles be longer?


Will it have a morale impact for INF to fight ARM?



Hope someone from the team will answer this or anyone else who knows this

We know for sure that all combat will take longer, so losses should be higher too. The manual also states that different division and brigades will inflict different amount of manpower damage and org damage for each hit.

You're kidding about casualties being too low right? In unmodded HOI2 the only reason casualties were low is because battles are over in a day and pretty much every mod increased the GDE to make battles last longer, thus increasing strength loss. This is the way to go and I hope they don't just increase the casualty rate while making battles still only last a few days.

Well IRL INF´s wont hold long vs ARM´s(This sounds funny if you read it loud :rofl: ), 1 day is realistic if everything is right for tanks(weather ground etc.), but the INF´s should get high casualties

But if certain requirements are met the casualties should be much higher as example if you fight fortications with INF

If this extends to Naval combat as well, maybe there's a way to use this to simulate carrier combat...?

I always liked the HOI2 naval system, my only gripe is the ai cant handle it. If in AOD the ai can, then id personally be content with that :D

So about my original idea: if AA brigades (naval) can be made to deal high amounts of ORG damage with no STR damage at all, and ships have progressively worse positioning rolls as ORG drops, it could simulate both AA shooting down gunline spotters (forcing a gunline to rely on surface spotting/radar, which is less effective due to horizon) and CAGs (reducing a CTF's ability to hold the enemy at arm's length). Thoughts?

And Naval bomber CAG´s should be able to sink enemy ships with ease

Since the combat system was made in cooperation with military theorist´s the average combat losses are increased compared to the old system(and not only because the fights will be longer) can the dev´s confirm this or anyone thinks the same?

What you are asking covers quite a complex area, actually. Yes, casualties tend to be higher, but the patterns and reasons are not simple. For example, troops that are in contact with the enemy - especially but not only troops that are retreating - take significant attrition in AoD. On the other hand, troops that have zero ORG do not count as targets in combat (this was a large source of STR loss in HoI2, because all ORG losses vs zero ORG units becomes STR loss, and units with zero ORG just stood in combat until their friends retreated). So, in some circumstances losses are less - but most of the time they are more (even if there is no attack happening).
