I am sorry if this theme was already mentioned. But I for the first time on a forum. I would like to find out, how in game process of manufacture of new kinds of engineering and arms will be realized? Whether there will be this abstract research or it there will be concrete historical samples? For example, our researches have resulted in an opportunity of release front bomber PE-2 or it will be simple abstract " assault aircraft "? Or still, we have achieved a level when it is possible to make new self-propelled gun Wespe or it there will be abstract self-propelled gun? If samples of arms will be real prototypes where it is possible to see their list and whether it will be possible to enter units?

From the hints I have read, the 'Tigers', T-34, A6M2, P40 Warhawk, and other countless historical units will all be included.

So, historical prototypes and the like WILL be in the game, so we hear :)

One would think that if the war could go past 1945 that you will see a good deal of theoretical weaponry such as the Maus and jet bombers....

This is a real prototype.........

pz105.jpg

"In September of 1939, German High Command ordered Krupp to design a heavy panzerjager armed with 105 or 128mm gun that would be able to destroy enemy tanks and heavily fortified positions (such as pillboxes). In early/mid 1941, Krupp-Gruson produced two prototypes of such a vehicle and on March 31st of 1941, first was presented to Adolf Hitler. The Fuhrer ordered further development of heavy panzerjagers armed with either 105mm or 128mm guns. He also ordered that the production of Selbstfahrlafette 10.5cm must start in the Spring of 1942, but it was later on cancelled in favour of other vehicles.

Selbstfahrlafette 10.5cm was armed with Krupp's 105mm K 18 L/52 gun with limited traverse of 8 degrees (left and right) and based on modified Panzer IV Ausf A's chassis. The gun itself was developed by Krupp and Rheinmetall from 105mm sK 18 L/52 heavy field gun and was mounted with a muzzle break. The gun was capable of penetrating 111mm of 30 degrees sloped armor plate at 2000 meters. It was mounted in lightly armored (armor protection ranged from 10mm to 50mm), open at rear superstructure and for local defense machine gun (7.92mm MG34) was carried inside as well. Vehicle was powered by Maybach HL 120 TRM engine with total power of 300 horsepower (same as Panzer IV) allowing it to travel at the speed of 40km/h.

Originally, two prototypes were assigned to Panzerjager Abteilung 521 in preparations for upcoming attack on Gibraltar. At the beginning of Operation Barbarossa, both were assigned to 3rd Panzer Division and were troop tested. One of them was lost when its ammunition exploded (it was then captured the Soviets) and the second one was brought back to the factory in October of 1941. Both prototypes proved to be very effective against Soviet KV-I, KV-II and T-34 tanks. Serial production did not take place, while even limited numbers would prove to be very useful to the front line troops faced with superior Soviet armor in 1941/42."

There were also Arado Ar 234 jet bombers which saw (limited) action in 1944 /45.

I found the following info: only one Luftwaffe unit, KG 76 was equipped with Ar 234 bombers. The unit flew its first operations during December 1944 in support of the Ardennes Offensive. Typical missions consisted of pinprick attacks conducted by less than 20 aircraft, each carrying a single 500 kg (1,100 lb.) bomb. The unit participated in the desperate attacks against the Allied bridgehead over the Rhine at Remagen during mid-March 1945, but failed to drop the Ludendorff railway bridge and suffered a number of losses to anti-aircraft fire. The deteriorating war situation, coupled with shortages of fuel and spare parts, prevented KG 76 from flying more than a handful of sorties from late March to the end of the war. The unit conducted its last missions against Soviet forces encircling Berlin during the final days of April. During the first week of May the unit's few surviving aircraft were either dispersed to airfields still in German hands or destroyed to prevent their capture.

Basically the game has units (Infantry, Armor etc)

These can be upgraded with new equipement.

So basically you could say that there are Armor Divisions Lvl 1,Lvl 2, Lvl 3 etc. These correspond to certain key equipement like Panthers or Tigers or whatever.

But are they actually named, like "our scientist have researched Tiger tank"?
Will the icon representing the unit change from a Pz IV to a Tiger tank? :)

Why is it so important? It's surely only a cosmetic thing and Paradox wants to develop a really good game and doesn't spend so much resources on eye candy. We know this from their previous games, like Europa Universalis 2. But those games sure rocked didn't they? It is likely that like most Paradox games HOI won't need a super 3d accelator 126 MB of Graphic card 50000 GHZ processor and 600MB RAM...

As for the icons... Well I have to keep my mouth shut :D

How can it cross your mind that I'm one of those "graphics first" gamer? :p
I'm only asking for lowly icon showing the right kind of vehicle and some text like "T-34/76 researched".......:(
That's not much to ask, isn't it? :D

(Encouraging all others to do the same.)

What are the benifits of haveing multiple levels of key equipement? What would happen when these units meet in battle? How will it all play out? Will it make for facinating engagements and campaigns?

Some things to think about beyond the fetish of RL unit designations.

No, you 'can't' produce tiger-units like in Panzer General, but you will have tech-levels representing this equipment, and many of these tech levels are accompanied by appropriate graphics on the map ...

My god "vox dei" sounded throughout the thread:) .I shiver in the thought...
Questions:will land tech be splitted in more fields(tank warfare, inf tactics etc)?
Will various nations start with different tech levels?

Sorry, but it is a huge dissapointment to me. :( I know that looks like no big deal having or not "real" equipment (T-34s, Panthers, Me-109s, etc) but i think that this kinda detail give life to the game and are not very hard to be simulated. I am one of the most fanatical defensors of the Paradox´s work, but in this case i´m really sad with the flaw. Tech Levels is, IMO, a thing from games of the beggining of the 90´s.

I disagree here, it's all very well playing as Germany and wanting Itger tanks, but what if you are Brazil and you have conquered South America. You would like to build better tanks but are told no, Brazil never had good thanks in real life, so you are screwed my son. You of course reply well Brazil never had the [insert expletive of your choice here] entire resouces of South America supporting them. That is the problem, for the majors on a fairly historical game having the real vehicles is a good thing. Playing minors or playing majors in a non-Historical games means the game becomes less fun.
