So I found it useful to give a lot of land to the Templars, they were my vassals and vassal limit was a problem so I dumped quite a bit on them and then they holy wared their way through Iberia so they came to control quite a bit of land. This was no problem, I kept all the Grandmasters as councillors, threw in a gift or two and every now and then they were under the control of my House which kept them happy and useful. And then... out of nowhere a new Grandmaster inherits and declares that my beloved Emperor is an inept ruler and he declares independence! I might have let them get away with this if it wasn't for the fact that they hold several counties in Jerusalem and I need them to create the Empire of Outremer, I'm doing an ironman-game and trying to pick up some achievements.
At first I figured I could press a claim from a member of my family but as they are weak claims I needed the Grandmaster to have a regency. I tried to start a plot to assassinate him but he just didn't care, I was hoping he would go into hiding thus forcing a regency but no luck. Then my last family members with claims died. I excommunicated my most powerful vassal, due to some rather unfortunate inheritances he controlled 5 or six kingdoms, and eventually managed to defeat him and revoke the Kingdom of Jerusalem as I figured I could vassalize the Templars as the King of Jerusalem, and besides I needed it to create the Empire, but no such luck! There's no option to vassalize the ungrateful Templars and I'm running out of ideas. Since I'm almost constantly at 100 % threat since my vassals are always fighting holy wars and claims I am not looking forward to fighting several wars against the Templars as everyone, including the Mongol Empire that controls a third of the entire world, have joined that pesky defence pact against little old me. So has anyone got any ideas about how to get them back as my vassals? They are always French, I'm Italian, and as the Holy Order is their main title they refuse to consider me their de jure liege so just asking them isn't looking good. I could try and start educating all my family members with Frech guardians hoping to flip their culture and then pray that a distant family member might inherit the order and I can ask them to be my vassals again but it feels unlikely at best. So, if anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate the assist!
