Dear PDS,
As we all know your other major titles such as CKII and EU4 have centuries of playable time for the player making the games very re-playable. They take a while to complete and they tend to be more friendly to the minor nations.

Hearts of Iron IV seems to be a great game but it only spans a decade of "new" stuff before it becomes a slug fest with everyone with max tech. I would suggest to make future dlc's that expand the playable time through the Cold War and even into modern conflicts. After the cancellation of East vs West it seems fitting that HOI4 could be expanded to include what East vs West intended to be.
Yours Truly,
WilliamTheIII

Why do people keep trying to shoehorn the cold war into a game where the mechanics and design principles won't do it any justice? The cold war needs a dedicated stand alone game with deep politics, good espionage and a really solid economic system, more vic than hoi.

Even tho we repeat ourself dozens of time, a Cold War expansion wont happen, because the game mechanics simply dont fit for it. Just as with EvW you need completly different gameplay mechanics for it to properly work in a way that makes sense.

Thats the reason why we got seperate games for different periodes in the first place, i.e CK, EU, Vic and HoI rather than 1 big game.

same goes for a WW1 mod, which was a bit weird in HoI III because it barely reflected the political situation before and during the war and felt like WW2 with different starting positions rather than a political struggle snowballing into a global war.

Well I personally have not had any re-playability issues with previous Hearts of Iron games. When you think about it, one day in HOI equals 24 days in EU4 or CK2. If a game goes from 1936 to say, 1948, then that is 4,380 days, which in EU4 days is 105,120 in-game days, which amounts to 288 years of game time. This is obviously not as long as a full EU4 game, but HOI also has a lot more going on as you are in constant war for most of the game.

I for one spent an ungodly number of hours on bloody HOI3 which is less of a game than it is brutal micromanagement torture, so I am pretty sure that HOI4 will be fine for replayabilty.

As for the Cold War Expansion, I suppose we will just need to demand a new title for that  (after Vic III of course...)

I bet everyone on this subforum wants a Cold War GS as much as you do. But, Cold War simulation requires things that WWII just really does not need, like a strong economic and diplomatic/influence game. Honestly, the Cold War is closer to Victoria II than HOI IV.

Although the time period isn't as long then time is much shorter per turn. The issue is balancing the national focus trees over longer periods of time.

I've logged quite some time in HOI3 and rarely make it past 1947, I'd be happy with just a mod or some DLC with tech's going into the early 50's. Even without given there will be tons of mods and the base game looks awesome without any expansions or patches etc. I don't see getting bored with this game in the next 4-5 years IMHO.

With the number of alt-history things that can now happen and things you can force on the AI (at a cost) I imagine this will be the most replayable version of the series. Add to that what modders will do, it is exciting.

First thing I will try is to swing France to the axis, combined the new Axis grand fleet will finally remove british influence from the continent.

The only thing that held back replayability for me in HoI3 was the AI - after a certain point, it took the edge of playing (and, sadly, mods as well, as the base AI was the base AI, and there wasn't much mods could do about the fundamentals). HoI4's greater potential for open-endedness (Fascist France, the UK and USSR at war, Japan angling for the USSR, and all the USA war plans, for example) combined with better AI and my general interest in the period are likely to mean HoI4'll get more playtime from me than any other strat game to date :). The key is to not think of it like CK2 and EU4 - both of those are long-term empire-builders, while HoI4 is about a powderkeg 12 years.

It is absolutely less 'friendly' to minors if the goal is to blob out (but still very enjoyable if you're happy playing a minor part in proceedings, but still having an interesting game), but as HoI4 isn't a long-term empire builder, I wouldn't see the kind of blobbing that you see from OPM to all of Europe in 400 years that you can do with those games as appropriate (at least without crazy exploits - it could be and was done in previous HoIs, and I'm sure there'll be ways to make it happen in HoI4 if you don't mind your gaming with a big piece of cheese :)).

Edit: And mods - there are some great looking mods already 'cooking' (FOARP's Turtledove-fiction based one looks like a very enjoyable alt-history game, and others are planning WW1 and Cold War mods - it'll take a while for them to come together, of course, but there'll happen I'm sure).

Well, lets see...I only got HoI3 as my last PDS title as late as November 2014.

Now I have 800 hours of EU4, 200 of CK2 and 350 of HoI3. And currently I'm totally unable to play HoI3 when I see how superior HoI4 will be.

I have to play Italy, and Germany, and Great Britain, and France, and Japan, and Soviets, and USA, and China, and Sweden, and India, and...oh, thats just planned for the historical setting without stuff that is too crazy.

Value for money? Incredible.
So I'm fine on my end.

It will definitely be more fun to play as minors in MP games for sure, it was a struggle even without sync and checksum problems to have fun with some of even the larger minors especially trying to get your neutrality down for countries in LA and such.

I don't really see why people think any of the HoI's had low replayability. I spent far more time on HoI 3 than i did EU4. It looks like with HoI4's more sandbox play and alt history stuff it will have that much more replayability.
