Hi,
So. In my game, the Mongols got their threat level to the top by taking a large swath of nomadic land and then the Kingdom of Rus. After that, they tried to invade Volga Bulgaria, which got them embroiled in war with virtually the rest of the world.
Well, instead of putting a quick end to this war by assaulting holdings, as any player would do, they are unable to focus on what was important to win, and instead rampage through Europe fighting useless battles just because they're at war with everyone else. Genghis Khan himself died in battle vs the king of France... in the invasion of Vulga Bulgaria. This war started in 1228, now it's 1240, it is clearly stalled and everyone is bogged down in it. It has become the primary foreign policy concern of the world, with most major realms being busy trying to prevent the Mongols from taking a remote kingdom near the Ural and doing not much else.
Worse, the Mongols burnt 50000 thousands event troops in this fight. That's right, they lost 2/3 of their event troops in battles they didn't have to fight. Jöchi, Genghis Khan's eldest son and successor, will probably die of old age before the war is over, leaving the Mongols bled dry for nothing. Admittedly, the Mongol invasion is supposed to be one of the major thrills of the game. Seeing it fail this way is such a disappointment.
What could be done to solve this? In my opinion, such a situation is the outcome of two factors when they mix together : on the one hand coalitions, on the other hand the inability of the AI to understand the notion of a Blitzkrieg, aka assaulting forts as soon as possible, when the enemy has so many troops it is pointless to fight battles.
I'm not part of the most anti-coalition faction of the player base, but admittedly, the result is clearly broken here. If only the AI was able to prioritize and do things that are relevant to win the war...
