I had the idea just now :

rarely, when you win a battle against a general (or maybe only the king if he's general), could trigger an event : the capture of the ennemy's general.

the winner would have the choice :
1) ask for a ramson and ask for money and some war score.
2) kill the general, loose prestige (to the winner for the battle) but cause a loose to the ennemy's moral.
3) keep the general and release him (for free) at the end of war : gain of diplomatics points (and/or a bonus to the war score IN the peace treaty (possibility to get a bit more 100% ?) and prestige.

The choice will trigger an event to the ennemy :
1) (if ransom is asked) pay for the general.
2) (if ransom is asked) don't pay the ransom but loose prestige and military tradition.
3) (if no ransom is asked) warn about the ennemy decision.

I don't know what do you think about it, but it could be fun to add an event directly inside a war.

I agree, I have lost countless country-leaders, heirs and generals in battle, and it always felt weird that they flat-out died. People would actually aim to capture the feather-hatted bastards to gain an advantage over the opponent int he war, if not in the battle.

Could we have captivity please?:O
This would require a big pack of events though (escapes, ransom demands, captivity events, etc.) and would become a bit too CK2-ish for comfort.
We need to think of a simple solution if this suggestion is to be taken more seriously guys :)

... and potentially out of the war as well :)

Captivity would be too complex 'cause you'ld need a window to manage this general.

You will manage that with event, so it must be direct action, or automatique (end of war), no delayed action.

But the escape of the captured general would be fun too : if the enemy keeps your general and if he succeeds to escape (dependant of spy level ?), your general is back and you can gain moral to your army.
A pretty reversal of matters : a weak army could have a boost in moral...

Even if the army is a 0/0/1/0 the army's reaction would be " YAY! The enemy is on its knees! Now we just have to finish it off!" :D

Heir/King Captures (and republic leaders) could be much bigger deals though. - Huge sums of money and perhaps education or adventure events related to their captivity.

the bonus/malus or cost could depend on the general's level (nomber of star), and the statut (king/prince/something else) of course.

but imagine the consequences : you capture the enemy king and you decide to kill him : you loose prestige (and reputation with other country 'cause it's a king) but enemy loose a king, with stability...
