You should be able to offer ransoms to anyone who holds a member of your family prisoner.

We have updated our Community Code of Conduct. Please read through the new rules for the forum that are an integral part of Paradox Interactive’s User Agreement.
This is a no-brainer, of course you should.
A slight detail, though: if the character you are paying ransom for is from another realm than you, is he simply freed, or what happens exactly?
