EU4 - At the moment, the pinnacle of Paradox. Last DLC's are adding perhaps not "essential" features, but those make "minor" countries to be really enjoiable: there are a lot of space for experimenting . Only flaw: past 1700-1750 game is somehow boring , if are not following a specific achievement.

CK - I rate above CK2 just because the idea of MTTH and the new event mechanism as well as the "dinasty" concept was a serious quantum leap .

CK2 - If would be possible to have a little more "historical" flow of events from the early scenarios, it would be perfect. Last DLC are somehow questionable .

Vic - Pops are another wondrous ideas , just one of the pearls inside this game.

EU2 - I was the "perfect EU"

Stellaris - A lot of feature you think "wow, I want to try this.." and after a while you discover that are pretty useless... :( But the game has a HUGE potential to rival with EU4

EU3 -It was not a great start.. later expansions are very good. Fortunately they put it apart, redesigning and optimizing everything with EU4.

VIc2 - A lot of great ideas but.... the development halted too early

EU - old, of course, but was the founder of a dinasty

HOI2 - The only "HOI" game I own. Great game, but you could actually play just the major powers

EU:Rome - A touch of EU2 , a little bit of CK , some unfinished ideas.. Danm you, Paradox! I want Roma2 so bad !!!!

Victoria 2 - My most favorite time period. POPs. No mana.
CK2 - As far as you can (reliably) go back for a full conversion grand campaign. Proto-mana. Border gore. Still supported by Paradox so patches may ruin my saves.
EU4 - Every time I play, something I like gets removed or nerfed in some way. Playthroughs get ruined by weird design decisions(take over country, convert its land to your religion, release it as a vassal, the vassal does not adopt your religion). I haven't played in a year or so because Paradox is still supporting it. I'll eventually get back to it if I can complete a CK2 campaign without my save getting ruined.
Stellaris - Waiting for it to be better than Distant Worlds.

1. Victoria 2 - wonderful game.

2. CK2 until WoL

3. EU4 until somewhere after 1.8 I think

4. HOI 3

5. EU 3 minus DW

6. CK2 after WoL

7. Cities Skyline - Good game but I'm a bit baffled by the lack of support for this game. The goal is wide open since EA tanked SC, but CO just seems determined not to kick the ball into the freaking net.

8. Stellaris
9. EU 4 now (both EU4 and CK2 are developed way beyond sense and need)

10. HOI4 - The colors gives me a "Hitler in Disneyland"-vibe. The battle-plan mechanics are just whack, but it is possible that I havn't toyed around with them enough. The Oob, tech and fleet/air mechanics are simplified to the point where you just lose intress in learning how to play the game. Just plopp stuff on the map, draw a big arrow and go play Vicky when you've won.
If I had more PDX-games it would be Further down the list.

I'm an absolute beginner and really don't understand much of any of these games. ~4 hours in each.

1. CK2:
So far this has been the most enjoyable. The role playing aspect makes it extremely fun. I really don't know how to play very well. That said, it really is very immersive. I get lost in the stories, and it really feels like I'm making things happen. It's really cool like that... the only problem is that I just don't know what the hell I'm doing. I've played as Ireland and I conquered someone next door. Tons of kids in my lineage. Marriages all over. I'm gaining some power. Yet there is a point where I'm trying to fabricate claims and understand the Duchy / Vassal / County ETC system, which is fairly confusing to me. And all this action is taking place halfway across the globe, and I'm just struggling to figure out how to deal with my neighbors from my throne in Dublin. I don't understand the religious system and just generally don't understand what I am allowed to do or not do. I start clicking around and I can't modify very much, can't get alliances, and so I do get a bit frustrated and close out a lot of the time when I feel like I can't make any changes. Sometimes I just want to mess with stuff for the heck of it, and I do kind of wish there was more power to just fiddle with things even if it makes no sense historically. That said, the marriage system and the role playing system is ingenious. I think I'd enjoy it a lot more if I really understood it well. 10/10 I suspect, if I understood it more.

2. EU4:
Very good. This one feels to me the most perfect. Everything is streamlined and performs very well. You really feel in control of everything and there is little ambiguity. You lose because you suck. Very educational in my opinion. Excellent, 10/10 game.

3. V2:
So far I've just been getting into it. I don't understand it but the depth is there.

So I don't understand any of them. I also have HOI3. I'm enjoying playing all of them, each one is different and helps to guide your learning. I really love this company. I do rather wish I understood better what I can do, how to win, and how to approach playing the games because it does sometimes feel like I'm just sitting there either with nothing to do, no options for forward movement, or simply just not understanding how to proceed properly. I feel like other players "get" something that I don't. I feel like the way that I'm approaching it is completely wrong. I may check back if someone has advice.

1. HoI3 - a flawed masterpiece (excessive tedium), and drastically in need of one more official patch or expansion, but it's by far my favorite. [ Having the OOB off-board would have helped. ]
2. EU3 - the flexibility and the gradual buildup of an empire over time are excellent, but it's more than a bit too random at times.
3. Vic II - fantastic depth, with plenty of options and information, but not happy with the inevitable French "blobbing" and revolts. Sadly, not my time period.
[ 4. CK1 - good underlying game, but very awkward interface, lack of a tutorial, and poor documentation made it needlessly difficult to get started. - a later addition to my collection ]
5. HoI 1 - didn't know about patching it at the time, and the bugs and poor documentation really killed it for me. Sold it.

Jorlog - If you ask in the individual games' forums, you should be able to get some beginner's advice. The other option is to look for TUTORIAL After Action Reports (AARs), rather than things like "conquer the world with Luxemburg" for more advanced players or to show off how to exploit the game's flaws. Most of us don't attack strangers on sight.

[ Note: items in "[ ]" brackets are later edits. ]

5. CK2 - I just can't get into it. Tried several times, but can't find an edge piece that will suck me into the game, which is a shame, since I like the period. The UI and mechanics just... ugh.
6. Stellaris/HoI4. with the potential to rise if/when they get finished. As is, they are simply disappointing. [Which I honestly should have expected with HoI4, since barring the U.S. Civil War, nothing is quite as dull as ww2. But the map sucked me in.]

CK2 was my first Paradox game. I love game of thrones, and the era this should of been my favourite. Unfortunately I couldnt work out what the hell was going on or what to do despite many hours and gave up.

Stellaris I like sci-if setting and 4x games so thought I'd take a risk with it considering the ck2 disaster.

Enjoyed Stellaris so much I bought EU IV - initially I was struck with the same confusion I had with Ck2. Then after watching a few qwill18 v videos on YouTube it clicked - haven't played Stellaris since.
