Random Through the Ages:
A Randomized Mega Campaign

Any time a Mega Campaign idea comes up, one uncomfortable truth snuffs that idea: 1000 years is a long time. Long enough that the Count of Reykjavik could probably go on to conquer the entire world between 867 and 1821. This further rules out a CK2-to-Vic2 game, or even on to HOI3. Unless something changes...

Every ten years, I'm going to flip a coin. Heads, we stay where we are. Tails, we go wherever the God of Random Number Generators decides. Gods and converters willing, we're gonna ride this sucker to 1948.

Table of Contents
Intrigue in Barcelona (867-877)
You're HOW Old? (877-887)

The DLC in use for this AAR for CK2 are LoR, RoI, SoA, ToG, and SoI. Shout-out to CatKnight for the inspiration over at Random World Order

Intrigue in Barcelona

Meet Salomon!
oxb6TKo.png

Salomon is 52 years old, and the only member of his dynasty. He rules a county, and has a castle in a neighboring one as well. Salomon has almost no redeeming characteristics, other than very high intrigue.
n7HVftC.png

Salomon needs a bride, ASAP. The ideal conditions would be one of childbearing age, who would give him an ally that is able to fight his liege, the Duke of Barcelona. Thankfully, a neighbor has a sister who fits that description
YJICZ7o.png

The current Duke of Barcelona has too many allies to risk an independence war right now. Thankfully, Salomon has one advantage: he's very good at killing people and getting away with it. How good?

That good. People are scrambling to make him spymaster, even as he offs them one by one. Eventually, he manages to have a daughter. He wants to name his heir David, but something similar will have to do for now.

The current Duke of Barcelona has no allies, whereas Salomon has one. These odds look good enough for war.

Now that he is an independent count, it's time to get involved in kingdom politics! why not join a faction?
NyXgymu.png

So terrified of Saloman's prowess is the king of Aquitaine that he caves immediately. Also, it seems that Salomon's wife's brother is the new duke of Barcelona, somehow.

On Saloman begets David!
VfYbzB7.png

The new duke of Barcelona tries to win independence from the king of Aquitaine. The only thing this manages to do is end in a while peace, and wreck Salomon's levies.
UOENQRM.png

Eventually, Salomon's claim on the county of Barcelona comes through. He intends to press this claim, but fears his wife will be angry. This fear mixed with his one true talent presents an obvious solution.

Now without allies, Salomon looks for powerful princesses to marry, who might bear him powerful sons. One such bride is found in Galacia

With that ten long years have passed. Salomon's levies are almost back to full strength. Will we be seeing more of him?

The coin says tails: that's a no. Who will we be seeing?

Say hello to Thankulf, the father of five who looks to depose a Karling.

Catknight started a movement :)

Playing a Random game can be really fun, been doin my own and the results have been interesting, to say the least.

Will definitely check back sporadically to see how you are you doing and to see how the world unfolds for you.

tnick0225: I've been reading yours: it looks awesome, lots of fun stuff happening. I'll keep an eye on it.

Almdudeler: You say lucky, I say one-county nobodies. But yeah, no 3-year-olds or lunatics yet, so it's luck in a sense. I'm sure worse situations will arise

JustSmall: Glad to have ya aboard!

ekorovin: When you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail. when you're a murderous old man, everyone looks like a victim.

You're HOW Old?

Good old Thankulf is a man with a good hold on what he has, and a good eye on what he wants. His younger son is without a bride lined up, so he picks a count. House Thueringen must get more land.

Thankulf has never been on a pilgrimage, it seems. He realizes what an opportunity this is, and returns far more diplomatic than when he left.

There are heathens next door, and Thankulf looks to expand his lands by attacking them. they've no allies, but the Slavic faith rallies, and he must beg of peace

The duke of Saxony decides to revolt against the king! his revolt is poorly planned and swiftly crushed, landing said duke in jail.
sGXqUUk.png

Thankulf sees an opportunity for a power grab. he fabricates a claim on the Ducky of Saxony, with the king's help. before the enemy's levies from the civil war have fully recovered, he strikes

Mercenaries are hired using borrowed money, but they pay off on the battlefield. The king seems amused by all this commotion in the north, and makes Thankulf Chancellor as a show of appreciation for deposing the treacherous duke.

A few counts of Saxony dislike the new administration, and seek to re-instate the old duke. They are crushed, and their titles revoked. Thaunkulf now has four counties to his name.

His son and heir Radulf's wife dies, so he sets up a new marriage with the countess of Oesterreich. Spread the Thueringen bloodlines far and wide, after all.

On that note, Thankulf seems to be sowing some wild oats of his own. Not bad for a man of 72.

2wiF15G.png

For some more family management, we've run into a bit of an inheritance problem. Radulf will inherit the duchy and its capitol, but Hartmann will inherit the other three counties. Troubling.

Meanwhile, Thankulf invests heavily in Scottish princes.

iIYLbXZ.png

Randulf seems to have some plans to fix the inheritance issue himself. His father does nothing to stop this, cold-blooded though it may seem.

After nine long years of playtime, Thankulf kicks the bucket. He leaves to his son Radulf three more counties and one duchy title than he started out. The last year of the turn passes without too much activity.

Will we be staying in Saxony? The coin says yes.
