So in my current prussia run I've been allied to France for about 150 years, the year is 1640. All of a sudden they broke my alliance due to a restoration of union cb, I don't even have the same dynasty nor was I in a pu. Is this some kind of bug or something? The idea that they'd be domineering towards a nation with a military 1.5x their size with 50% higher discipline and over 1 morale ( I took all mil ideas) is ridiculous. Not to mention they have all small hre allies and I have the ottoblob with 3x their troops, Great Britain and a strong Sweden as allies. It's not a huge deal but I kinda need them to back me up in my western wars as GB barely helps and my other allies are too far for those wars.

And the issue isn't the GB alliance, France is actually pretty amicable with them and we share most of our rivals

Did you use the Introduce Heir mechanic recently? That would have given any nation you have a royal marriage with a Restoration of Union CB for 20 years and make them domineering towards you.

Yeah that's what it was, they should really give you a warning or something before you push that button. I've never had to do it before but my hair and consort died the same year while my ruler was 70 years old so I freaked out.

Yeah, that button really needs some kind of warning. It makes sense from an RP perspective - I mean, you're essentially circumventing your nation's normal rules of succession - but right now, that button is essentially a newbie trap.

When I hit this situation I find some war to declare. Sometimes I'll just go ahead and make my elderly king lead the armies to expedite the inevitable. Being at war prevents falling under a PU and instead you get a random dynastic member when your ruler dies.

I follow a rule that keeps that situation from happening. I‘m always the one who initiates marriages. I never introduce heirs while having marriages. I rarely marry while I have no heir. These rules give me the most control when my ruler dies. There are exceptions of course. You may want a certain dynasty on your throne and marrying into it while hairless may be the only way.
