Boring Background: I am way behind on EU4 expansions (have only played vanilla to date), but yesterday I bought Conquest of Paradise, Res Publica, and Wealth of Nations on sale at GamersGate. I also intend to buy Art of War full price because I am excited about the features. To best take advantage of all expansions at once, I want to play a game as Utrecht, carefully expand militarily, form Netherlands, colonize a random new world, and build a vast trade empire (or die trying).

Question: I know they recently upgraded the new world with many additional provinces in 1.8. Did this have any impact on the random new world generator? Specifically, will the random new world have the same number of provinces as the pre-1.8 new world or the post-1.8 new world? Also, are the random maps any good?

Disclaimer: I did try a forum search before making this post, but I couldn't find anything. I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere.

you could just try it your self.. start a game with random new world. open console (use "´") and type "TI"(terra Iconita will be off). assess the new world situation and decide if its good or not. if its good, just start a new game with random new world and enjoy.

Did 1.8 make the new world generator any better? I thought maybe they would have done some more work to it since they have so many new tags there and so many more provinces.

Can some of you post some screenshots of a randomly generated new world with AoW? It's one of those features that would be so nice if they just improved it a little more to look a bit nicer.

I was wondering about whether the number of provinces is really right, so I posted this to the Bug report forum :) Nobody answered. I still feel this New World is too crowded...

Though this is indeed incredibly ugly, I actually appreciated its weird influence on gameplay.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know how to do that. I will give it a try.

the province number are in parity with 1.8.

Good to hear. I was afraid that the province numbers would be off and throw production/taxation out of balance in the new world.

I actually rather like the look of the continent you got!

I think I will go ahead with the randomly generated continent(s), then. I at least want to try it once. I'll try to remember to post a screenshot on here if I can.
