Ok I admit it, I hate random events, so please dont make more fuzz about it...:D

I would like to remove the random events but I'm not able to do it...

If I delete the db\events\randomevemts.txt file the game wont start,

If I remove the link to randomevemts.txt in the db\events.txt file the game wont start,

If I remove all or some events in the randomevemts.txt file the game crashes...

The only way I made it work is to change all events in the randomevemts.txt file into +1 ducats events, but this is a hell of a job...

Could someone tell me if EU2 MUST have some randome events or if there is a other file I have to edit to completley remove the randome events? Or generaly enlighten me...

Or, God forbid :D , is it impossible to completely remove the randome events?

Please dont make this a thread about how good or bad randome events are...:(

Random events are at the core of EU. Believe me, they are much less important in EU2 than they were in the original EU boardgame, where events set the stage for the game to evolve along historical lines. Face it; even the Sultan of Turkey, permitted by law to murder his brothers and slaughter 100 innocents a day, still had to contend with disgruntled imams, restless timarots and mutinous janissaries.

No nation, then or now, was an automaton controlled solely by the will of its master (which in the case of EU2 is you.) Random events remind you that the elites of your nation have demands, make stupid mistakes, and generally need managing just like your armies and your diplomats need managing. Frankly, for me one of the most pleasant changes made between EU1 and EU2 was the increase in importance of events, both random and historical.

Certainly you can ask Paradox to give you an option to disable random events. Ask them as well for space travel and hand-to-hand combat options, too. ;-)

I have problems with the random events, which are always negative unless I have +3 stab, in which case I get the Heir to the Throne event. There are many examples of decades of good government, unmarred by the types of major crises that every event represents. For any decently sized empire, not to mention one with multiple religions or cultures, losing a few points of stab is more than a hiccup. -250 to a tech is often a sizable chunk.

I wish there were some way to tie the frequency, severity, and negativity of random events to the types of things that really seemed to provoke them in RL. Kind of like war exhaustion, you could have the odds grow due to war, due to a smaller treasury size (if you live hand-to-mouth, you're that much more vulnerable), your monarch's admin rating, your stab, your VPs (how well the people perceive your nation to be doing).

Oh well. I mostly live with them, although the petition for redress always hits me at the worst times ... and with choices that bad, no time is good.

Please, please and PLEASE... read my initial post folks...

DO NOT MAKE this a thread about how good or bad randome events are... If I wanted that, I would have posted in the general forum...

I just asked for some help from the guys who knows the game system...

Could you please respect my request when I start a thread? No answer needed, as it would further deteriorate the thread...:(

OK, everyone, please stay on topic, OK?

I thought you could remove the link to randomevents.txt from events.txt... You could put in a new file with only one +1 ducat event (you can also have events doing nothing - just remove all commands: command = { }). That way it won't be that much editing ;)

K, I've found this thread with the "search" option, and me too I hate random events, tried your trick but now when a random event happens I got a crash... So, is there a "safe way" to play without those damn random events?

Regards,
FrosT37, a guy who hates random events :)

The ONLY way to get ridd of the randome events is to change ALL events into events with command = { }

Its a lot of work but it is worth it

Goodness, I didn't realize there were actually this many people having this problem.

Okay Dagfinn, you get your wish. Wiping out the random events will be an option in next week's release.
