Random CTDs

I am getting use to the large number of negative random events, but I can't stand the random CTDs that seem to be happening every 4-5 years...

They happen when I hit the pause key, select an army, click 'OK' or such on a pop-up, or even just when I am watching the time pass (wanting for things to happen). The CTD random % generator must be set at 15... as that is how often they to happen when doing one of the latter mentioned.

Present game where this is all happening;
Austria 1400's, 1.07 (no betas)

Some more have been fixed in the current betas. I finished an entire GC as POR with the current beta and had 1 CTD in 400 years.

If you get any that occur reliably we can check out the save games you have, but if they are random they are likely to be an install, config, driver, or other PC-specific issue.

I would try running without sound (turn it off by running EU2_Settings.exe ). Check for updates for your video drivers. If they don't help, uninstall EU2 completely (moving your saves elsewhere first), defrag your hard disk, reinstall EU2 then 1.07 immediately. Let us know how you go.

You could try disabling the intro movies by renaming your avi folder to avi_old. Random CTDs stopped occuring for me under 1.07 after doing this.
