Dear tech support,

I experience random crashes in my CK2 games, usually every 1–2 years ingame. The game just crashes to desktop and informs me that ck2 has ‘stopped working’.

This happens with unmodded 2.1.6.

Here are some logs:

I see no problems in those log files. But you could try these changes to settings.txt

fullscreen=no

multi_sampling=0

master_volume=0

If they help, undo them one by one to see which one helped.

That aside, is there any consistency in the crashes? Do they occur while saving, or after any particular action or event? In both Ironman and not? Cloud and local saves?

Do the crashes get recorded in the Windows Event Viewer? if so, do they all look the same in there?

Thank you for your quick reply.

The crashes happen randomly, even if I do nothing special. They are not linked to particular actions or dates, such as autosave dates. It happens both in Ironman mode and non-ironmade mode, both with cloud saves and local saves.

Changing those settings had little effect. fullscreen=no seems to override my display resolution settings and the error saying that the game has ‘stopped working’ is now displayed over the ck2 map and not the desktop.

The crashes are indeed logged in the windows event viewer, but I can’t tell whether or not they are substantially different. I attached the error logs.

They are all the same crash code in the same location, which means it's a bug or corruption somewhere. Please try a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

Failing that helping, we have 2.2 coming out soon, so we'll just have to see whether this continues under that - there are a lot of fixes included!

I noticed that there are several people here reporting the same kind of problem, all of them have AMD APUs. The game runs perfectly on my notebook (Intel i5).

Actually the beta is superceded by the official 2.2.1 patch now. May as well try another full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

Then please start a fresh new test game; if that still crashes, let's have a new set of info files like you've already provided please.

And, how random are they? Is there no linking factor, like time of play, or any action or event? After a crash can you play again immediately, or do you have to reboot or wait a while?
