After watching the streams and reading the dev diaries, I have notice that once the ships are built at the station, they sit there until martin made them into a fleet. What if there were rally points like in Vicky 2, or even templates from EU4, which would reduce some of the tedium of having to merge your fleets. Maybe having something from the likes of RTSs where you can have your new units rally onto a unit, in this case a fleet. Also if the fleet leaves your space, then that could deactivate the rally point, so that you dont have single ships flying into enemy space (if at war) and getting blow up.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, all that makes a lot of sense. I'm hoping that some convenience features like this are already in development (another that I've seen mentioned was showing buildable areas for stations), we'll see.

Why don't you just station your fleet at your shipyard?

You can build from multiple shipyards at the same time.

Well, sure, if you like wasting money on space docks you don't need.

Or if you ever need to quickly construct new fleets because of a setback. Plus the fact that starports don't only construct ships but do other useful things too.

Or simply providing redundancy in case the enemy manages to jump that one space port of yours. But hey, you have another three tucked away in various corners of your empire and even though you only really need one to keep up production to fill your current needs... it doesn't hurt to be able to suffer losses without having to consider that a major setback. And having additional dormant potential in case you need to ramp up production to a war footing.

Agreed. The lessons of EUiv navies are very applicable here (especially what not to do, as in suiciding single ships during war). But rally points for fleets should definitely go into the game.
