What I don't see, and I don't remember having seen at all ... is a huge backlash against SoA.
I don't recall it either, myself. In my search for the "second phase" remark by any dev, I did happen upon a "What went wrong" thread for Sons of Abraham, but... I don't think that got nearly as much attention as, say, the thread entitled "Best DLC yet". That being said, while I'm sad to not see another Sons of Abraham-style DLC... as I've said from the beginning, that's just my gut, initial reaction (which might be from being a huge fan of CK1, which was focused entirely upon Europe), and I look forward to the actual Dev Diaries before commenting on the DLC beyond disappointment at entirely new content over expanding existing content. I just hope that, after Rajas of India, we'll get another flavor DLC :)

I'm a little biased but I am glad that this often overlooked period of Indian history is finally getting some attention, not just that but this is an area that Muslims were very keen and active in conquering for themselves at the expense of ignoring Western Europe, as it is this aspect of history isn't reflected in the current game, if anything the Islamic regions in the game as it is should be stronger given that their borders are more or less consolidated without an India to worry about.

Look at Old Gods. Was it a well done DLC? Yes it was, however there were plenty of problems with it. While Paradox at least tried to sell the other Pagan faiths, in all actually only the Tengri were the ones to really receive any actual attention, the Slavic's and other pagans getting utterly shafted to the point that post patching needed to buff them and give them a reason to exist as more than Norse blob feeding material. Meanwhile, the Norse lacked any clear balance and were chock full of power gaming mechanics and flavor events, which consistently allowed them to steam roll over many of the local neighbors and the British Isles. The lack of balance and quality testing was so apparent, it really has one questioning if the QA department is either just lazy, biased, or outright incompetent.
Could have used SOA as a perfect example as well. Several core features FUBAR on release, and as it turns out half of the events added weren't even functional. It's painfully obvious even basic QA has been lacking sorely for a long time, and if you go into the more extensive and complicated stuff it turns into a mess of its own.

Does this kind of mudslinging happen with the release of every major DLC? Some of these comments (from both the pro- and anti-RoI camps) seem exceptionally overdramatic in light of the fact that no one here can cite anything but speculation to back up their opinions on the quality of RoI. Will there be problems upon release? Obviously so, and this thread will probably explode with another 50 or so pages carefully parsing or defending every mechanic, since that seems to be the hobby of a lot of the forumites.

I personally welcome new content and the game's interesting takes on medieval history, even though CK2 is at its heart a light-hearted abstraction of Medieval Europe and its environs. That being said, I really hope Paradox pays very close attention to the criticism in this thread, whether it is relevant or not. There are plenty of good ideas here and this discussion would be more pleasant and productive if it were less focused on questioning Paradox's decisions and more on how to make them work in order to promote a better experience for everyone.

I dunno how I feel about this. At the very least there's no reason to expand the map any further. I guess it makes sense to have India since India was quite important to the Muslim world. I just really hope the next DLC adds depth to things.

It seems a lot of people still expect a lot from this game which has already given so much AND they want the devs to focus on their requests exclusively.

Dont forget that adding an entirely different region will probably require making whole new systems to handle it which could also be applied to better represent the varieties of European rule in this time period.
One thing that makes me really excited about this mod is the ambition. The devs are essentially building a whole new game (at least the potential is there, India's is more than comparable to all Europe in its diversity, history and cultures), whether or not it comes out flawlessly at first I have no doubt they will build on it along with the whole game to make it better all the time. That's what's great about paradox.

I'm pretty excited, love playing Indian states in EU and I can't wait to see how they will handle India in the middle ages. Games are supposed to be fun, you guys worry too much

With CK 2, PDS really wants to break the bad tradition of their games being buggy to the point of being unplayable on release. While the events are not functional, at least they don't break the game. This is why I am myself sceptical that there will be any major overhaul to mechanics, unless the fellows really know that their coding will not crash the game. That, or they had spent a lot of time looking over it. (Proposed decadence fix, I'm looking at you.)

At the 1066 start date, you can say that India was going feudal. But in 867 it was mostly unified under a large classical empire with little to no feudalism at all. With 1193 date (Muslim Turkish invasion of India) the game can handle the feudal chaos, but I don't know how it will handle pre-1066 India in any way. Feudalism in India was in a much limited scale compared to Europe. There were no things like 'dukes' or 'counts', instead there were governors and bureaucratic central government and military governors and generals, ruling over not feudal titles but provinces and districts.

It is going to be as inaccurate as Roman Empire in 867. But I will still buy it. There are so few games about India.

You mean to say I can finally play a character of my culture....you are great paradox:wub:

You could say the same about Europe... The Carolingian counts were much more like governeurs. They get a Gau but didn't had the right to inherite it to there sons. Europe at 867 wasn't really Feudalistic. At least not feudalistic how it's represented in CK2.

From what I have heard, in 867 the Pala Empire was already in decline and much smaller than it was at its zenith.

The Muslims had already expanded into the Indus valley even before the start of the Old Gods DLC, well beyond the eastern extent of the current map. That's reason enough to include India, and to bump the starting date back even further to 750 AD.

Just please don't make me pay extra for some "Indian Faces" DLC.

Inevitable. They've done it with all other DLC's, so I don't see it not happening. I'd like them to do a Celtic music pack as an aside when they have time - I feel like that's really the "missing DLC" at the moment and it bewilders me why one wasn't done given how unique Celtic-themed music is from that of everywhere else.

I suppose, but Byzantine music is also a fairly unique blend of eastern and western, but the "Byzantine" music pack ended up being NOTHING like Byzantine music, just sounded like the default music in the game, except with Byzantine themed names.

If the Celtic DLC ends up anything like that, I think I'd prefer it not be made.
