How do I raise my efficiency? I see nothing about it in the meager manual. It appears that, the more duchies I have in my desmesne, the lower my efficiency. Is there anything I can do to raise it? If not, then how can I determine the maximal number of duchies to keep in my desmense before vassilzing some?

also building border towers (or whatever those things you can build in the northeast are named) makes you able to have more demenses... i belive :)

AFAIK Royal post don't give you additional demenses, they just lower the inefficiency of being above max.

Only ways to increase is to have a better steweardship factor for leader, to wait for time going by and to become king...

Basically, it's all simple:
Give the poorest provinces to vassals, keep the richer ones to yourself :)

Now, you get max. efficiency, you get extra prestige for vassals and you don't have to worry about these darn useless poor provinces.

Royal posts are imho useful only when you have a huge demesme (otherwise, that -5% income will cost you more then you recieve). And if you have a huge one, it's better to have a lot of happy vassals.

For those who don't know, the Post in Royal Post is the same as in Post Office and has nothing to do with border keeps or guards...

If you hover the cursor over your gold at the top of the screen, you'll get a rollover tooltip telling you how many provinces you can personally control at 100% efficiency. It is based on your stewardship attribute. Any province above that in your demesne means a 10% penalty for all provinces...

Royal Posts (and Grand Palaces) guarantee you a minimum efficiency in the province they're built (but you'll have to edit the files on the Royal Post, they are broken in 1.01).

If you are looking for increased income and troops, your best bet is to stay at no more than 2 provinces above your maximum. 7 provinces at 80% is better than 5 at 100%, if they are all equally good. Give the rest to vassals.
There are circumstances when I personally go way above my max, using (edited) Royal Posts in my core to keep some cash going in : to try and convert heathen (+100 piety to the holder of the province, so I keep them untill they've converted, they do so quickly enough) or to anchor my border with the muslims (they tend to attack vassal counties near the border, but leave alone my own demesne, so I don't give them easy targets when I want to be left alone...)

About the muslims attacking vassals in the border, my own experience is the inverse. If all my border is filled with vassals, they do not dow me, nor do they dow my vassals as long as my vassals have an almost full regiment.

To have yours vassals armies demovilized, prevent them to dow the bordering muslim as well.

... and yes, it was very suspicious that, either with or without steward, my max number of provinces without penalty in efficience was the same (5 for a king of stewardship 6).

There is one province i dare not to give to a single vassal. Malta... Have tried it a couple of times, every time the result was the same- every friggin' muslim country nearby and their grandmother dowed it. Suddenly i was fighting half of the world.

Well thx to RP, you can sensibly increase your demesne and still get a good ratio, so basically it gives you additional demesne...

How do you edit royal posts to be correct?

I myself tend to go at about 70% efficiency, usually.

Hopefully they'll also fix the stewardship rating so that the steward bonus affects your max demesne size.

Look in the /db folder for an improvement_effect.txt file (or somthing similar).
In the royal post section, change demesne = 0.8 to demesne = 1.2, and it'll work.

I don't know if they mean for the steward bonus to affect the domain size. It already affects your income from each province, and affecting demesne size would make it extremely powerful...

Yes, I have seen the same.

After I captured some muslim provinces I also had some muslims on my court. It seems if I make them the vassal of the muslim provinces there are not attacked by the other muslim nations. But if I make a Catholic the vassal they do.
I don't know if this is a general rule (didn't really tested it deep), but it seemed to work fine for me.

Ah, but since I have just captured those provinces (that's why they are on my border :) ) the regiment is almost empty. So I must keep them until it's full... but since there are so many of them, my efficiency is near 0, so even full for me means near empty for my vassal if I were to give it to him. In the end, I just keep them until the border has been pushed a bit further ;)

I've the feeling this was removed because stewardship affecting max demesne size made it far superior to the other attributes. I could be mistaken though, and it could be a simple bug...

A good hint is to try to conquer enemy provinces while their regiment is somewhere else: the double advantage is that the enemy army is reduced and that you get a nice armed garrison.
