I just finnished viewing an episode of Vikings and fantazised about creating Norse/Viking nation in stellaris. But are the game allowing raids as a way of making money/loot without DOW? And later when a war is at foot, are you as a player being able to harass trades? Either with nation build commersraiders or by selling Marqee/privateers letters.

Many 4x games seems to think Pirates is a form unending form of space monsters but is it not something that appears as above mentioned and as consequens of rich trading routes and to little security sector/area wize?!

How is this handled in the game? Is probably all there to see if I read all dev diaries but if anyone knowa I will be greatfull.

They've got an expansion planned for the short term already. Judging by the EU4 history, these expansions usually bring along new functionality for free.

I'm hoping trade will be introduced fairly early in the expansion roadmap.

I would love a dlc that adds a civilian economy that you need to protect if you wist to prosper.

Hyperspace "highways" would be interesting, maybe have pre-existing ones with the ability to build your own with advanced late game research (maybe another late game disaster?). Add ability to construct/deconstruct at ludicrous cost.

Civilian sector is fairly unlikely with the groundwork they have though - while they do have a nice groundwork and potentially could expand in such a way, it would simply take too much work i imagine

After watching vikings, I strongly recommend you to play a round of ck2 as the norse. It will satisfy your needs for raiding.
Regarding stellaris, I suppose merchant, mercenaries and raiders will come as DLC. (I read an interview today that paradox is already planning the first DLC, link is in a recent tread ;))

It is highly likely that trade routes (and the ability to raid them) will be introduced within the first 2 DLC's.
