Only if there's added a way to deal with them. Currently getting raided is just part of life in the Mediterranean until someone sucks up the maluses and eats the Berbers (and Knights to a lesser degree).

Which frankly makes life around them rather unpleasant even without them gaining PP to salt the wound.

Can't you simply prevent raids by assigning a single galley to "Protect Trade"? That's what I do and it seems to work.

I thought that the mission that mitigated the raids was having a ship 'Hunt Pirates' in the node? I'm using that... Mind you I also have a single Heavy mixed in with my Genoa trading fleet doing escort duty. That fleet is set to 'Protect Trade', so I may have inadvertently hit on same method as you.

Can anyone else confirm which, if either, of these missions is actually mitigating the Med. raids, or have I simply been very lucky the past 50 game years?

Right, it's called "Hunt Pirates". I don't have any Heavies mixed in with my lights. I have a one-stack galley on the "Hunt Pirates mission in any trade note which could be raided.

Raiding costs should give at least a weak casus beli like diplo insult on the raiders.

Hunting Pirates does mitigate the effects of coastal raiding. This is decided by the fleet speed, and number of guns in the pirate hunting fleet.

I could've sworn coastal raiding gave a Trade Dispute CB with the target. I guess I never noticed, because every country that raided my coasts was also privateering my node, thus giving me the Trade Dispute CB. In any event, a CB is a must. Especially against the AI, raiding is highly lucrative, and pretty much risk free as they never seem to hunt pirates, and if they do, a human knows enough to throw more ships at the node to overwhelm the hunting fleet. A CB would be a nice deterrent to go along with the HUGE relation malus you get from raiding. This would've been an interesting touch in my current Norse Faroe Island custom game, where I can pretty much raid Scotland, and most of England, Ireland, and Norway with impunity every ten years, despite their much larger navies.

In any event, if I get power projection from privateering, I should get it from raiding, as well.

I don't agree. There is no way to justifize giving exceptional PP for coast raiding countries. They can still get PP from privateering and there is no reason to give PP for coast raiding like privateering.
